Also thinking that I don't have the motivation to physcially construct it. I used to be all up in building my own stuff. Now, frankly, I don't care much and some of the pc's on the market contain top quality hardware. So I took about 15 minutes and went through Dell's site and started building an XPS 700 Special Edition system. I need FAST first and foremost for my development environment and yeah, sure, I'd like to get some extras because now that school is over, I may hook myself up with some games. So (giggle), I "built" this system with everything that I needed first (had to be VISTA ready because I'm a .NET dev) and then added some extra's for gaming. Needed a widescreen for maximum viewable area when in Visual Studio 2005. Yeah!!.. I cranked out a 5168.00 system:

So.. Now I have to sell my body so I can buy it..lol. If I sold all my current pc stuff I could probably get about $1800.00. Problem is.. actually selling it. hmm I do get a bonus at the end of the year.. I think I also might get a Dell discount through my employer.. double hmm..

dont know if you really need a PhysX card (especially with that processor); so far they havent really proven to be worth the extra money.

U shouldnt need those lil' speakers either and it wouldnt really be taking advantage of the sound card :)

Personally wouldnt bother building one at present as Vista is still 5 months off, and as you well know hardware changes rapidly, which is why I'm laying off building a new desktop until Dec at earliest.

While Vista runs well on my AMD64 3500+ and 1GB and 100gb hd with Ati x200 mobile GFX I would want more in my desktop hence I'm waiting.

Superb specs and will no doubt run Vista fine... but I would still wait.

Vista is on .net3 at present with backwards .net1 and .net2 included.

Well, I'd buy an after market set of 5.1's for christmas :)
The physX card would be my "extra gadgetry" because you know.. I'd rather have it now so when the games DO come out next year, I'll be READY BABY!!

    @Halo
I have an MSDN account so I can get Vista when ever my heart desires :) and so the first thing I would do with the system is format C: and install Vista.

I'd still wait on the PhysX card. Reviews so far are very underwhelming, and it's not certain that it will survive. nVidia has a physics engine (called Havoc, I think) they'll be incorporating into their vid cards that will go head-to-head, only cheaper, and that might make it fairly short lived. Keep a slot reserved just in case, but it's time is not yet.

    Other than that, NICE system.

4919 without the physx card.. at first I didn't notice that it came with Dual GeForce cards :)

Now the bad news.. wife told me tonight that she wants the bathroom redone.. just great..

In that case I would go with the Kohler faucet's in Vibrant Brushed Nickel. :D

    Dual faucets in SLI. :D

Is the bathroom supposed to be along with the new puter, or instead of? Somehow wives always have different priorities.

Install a new computer IN the new bathroom....it's high time guys didn't have to take the newspaper in there with them every time......this is the 21st century after all ;)

Well, the bathroom is relatively small. We just got the bath tub fitted with one of those bathfitters and at least that part looks nice. But now she wants to cut a hole in the wall to make for a closet with shelves (ok ok, that was my idea, but I didn't think she'd ACTUALLY go for it.. and I mentioned it like 2 years ago). Then she wants a new sink and, OH, the closet is supposed to take place of the loss of cabinet space under the sink because she wants one of those pedestal sinks??... and of course the floor needs to be tiled.

Now remember .. those who know me know that if doesn't have a keyboard attached to it, then I hire someone else to do it for me. So crap!! that's probably gonna cost us about 1200 in parts and labor. Thank god for the home improvement loan; and thank god that my wifes business is taking off like wildfire!! she landed 3 new clients one of whom is a local municipal utility company!! oddly enough, I am developing an app at work that allows utility co's to look at their data over the web.. oh how the world is so connected to everything :)

Whats the price? I configured the same machine at Abspc.com except I got dual 200 gig hard drives and it was 2995. I remember Dell was more expensive when price shopping.

4718 for the lappy and 4919 for the desktop.

I'll have to check out abspc but I doubt they have a lappy like the m2010 :)

Kodo, if you go through with that order I'd add another sata drive.
It's amazing how quickly you can fill up 160gb...

Hehe, yeh I began with an 80gb IDE and when I got it was like wow 80gb, this'll keep me going for ages!

Gave it a week or so and was using 60gb already - so I bought a 250gb sata II drive that's doing fine now :)

I don't normally get too excited by laptops, but that one is sweet Kodo. Definitely want all the storage possible though. Stuff accumulates at an alarming rate.

And that would serve as Lev's Bathroom Computer too. :D

Ditto I thought it was just another lappy,I thought all that power and screen but I still cant use the arrows keys for gaming due to the screen and keyboard being inline, then he unclipped the keyboard  WOW!

Now I'm to find a study buddy:)

Naturally, I'd have to buy a new blue-tooth keyboard in the ergonomic form factor :) bits and pieces :)
