My z61m Thinkpad fan has been running constantly and now I have received a "fan error"/blackscreen on restart. Any help would be appreciateded.

    Is the fan still running?
You might need to go into BIOS and check your fan settings. There may be a setting that prevents booting or shuts down if the fan is stopped or running too slowly.

but this might be a sign that your computer is overheating. you might want to try and clean out the fan/fins inside of any dust.

Although you wouldn't expect that on startup, would you?
