Our IBM Thinkpad T42 won't power on ,with or without the battery in. The battery drained down to 0%, it was plugged in but wasnt recharging. Actually with the battery in , it will powerup for 2 seconds or so, kicking the fan on, but immediatley shuts down. I think its the power jack but the wife thinks the PC is going into some sort of battery refresh/recondition mode.

After a closer look, the yellow power jack on the laptop looks loose. I can wiggle it and see a loose screw under the monitor hinge, but can't figure out how to take it apart for closer inspection.

There are tons of screws on the bottom of the laptop, some have icons looking like a keyboard or monitor maybe, and they seem to be sets numbered 1-4. I can't figure out what the icons mean, or the logic behind the numbering scheme.

So if I do get it apart (any help here appreciated) what would I look for and do? I'm conisdering bringing it somewhere to let them mess with it.
