Let me start off by saying i hope i posted this in the proper section and if i didn't my sincerest apologies.

I'm having problems with uninstalling / installing Java and i have used the program JavRa with no success.

I have included 3 screen shots at what I'm being told in the Add/Remove programs.

This first shot is from when i first attempted to uninstall the Java.

The second is what it told me during uninstall

And here is the final message.

If anybody can help me uninstall/ install Java, i would be tickled pink.

    Thanks.:)

This is just a problem with the installation files. Please do this:

    * Download the Microsoft Installer Clean Up utility file and save it on your desktop
    * Double click on executable file. The installation process will start. Follow the instructions accordingly
    * Once installation process is over, go to Start -> All Programs -> Run Windows Install Clean Up utility
    * This will launch the Windows Installer Clean Up utility dialog box
    * Under the Installed products list, select the desired JRE version that you want to remove
    * Click Remove and Exit

Now see if you can uninstall them.

Now see it you can install:
    Java Runtime 6

    Thanks Tim.
I ran the Microsoft Installer Clean Up utility file and it did delete the file but when i uninstalled the program i lost my Java Icon in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

I went back and installed an older version of Java and had to copy javacpl.cpl to System 32 folder and it came back, then i went and hit the update button and got this.

This is where i stand at present.:confused

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, RocktheJungle.

Sounds as if the uninstalls/reinstall issues may be network related. Make sure you download anything related to this problem as standalone .exes. Also, when uninstalling/reinstalling, disconnect completely from any local network or the internet.

Another step would be to disconnect any discrete serial or USB devices, in case Windows is seeing them as possible network paths or shares.

You might also check if any Startups are network related (especially the Java "jusched.exe" if it's there - it shouldn't be if the uninstalls were complete) - if so, disable temporarily for troubleshooting purposes.

You're not on Novell or PXE, are you?

    Thanks for responding Caliban.

To answer your last question first , no I'm not.

As far as everything else you posted, that is way over my head my friend to be honest, but I'll see if i got the mental aptitude to decipher.

Check your antivirus logs and the Windows Management Applications logs for further details on why you're having these problems.

Why are you trying to install an older, vulnerable version of Java?

I was installing an older version for trial and error purposes, i was hoping i could get Java Update to over ride the older version.

As far as the bolded part what should i look for and where, I'm pretty novice?:cry

What i found was the older the Java version the console link worked in Add/Remove programs , the newest version makes the console icon disappear.

Not much point in doubling your work. If you can install the latest version (in TimW's post), there'll be no need to update it for a few days ... weeks.

Antivirus logs - you'll need to open your AV and see what you can find ;) they're all different.

Windows logs - right-click (My) Computer > Manage > System tools > Event viewer > Windows logs.

Permissions may be coming into play here, though I don't see evidence for it. Which Windows and SP is the PC running on? Are you on an Administrator account?

OS:XP SP 3, and there are no Admin accounts needed.
I will check the bolded part.

Is the account you are using one with Admin. privileges?

    No, Tim.

Then I suggest you log into an account with Admin. privileges and try downloading Java again. Disable your AV protection when you try to install it. Re-enable after it is installed.

I'm going to ask a pretty stupid question here but hey i'm learning, do i need admin permission if it's my own computer and if yes how do i do that?:confused

Go to the control panel and click on User Accounts. Tell us what your account is set at. Also, what other accounts are there?

It kept telling me that file was already installed on my computer but according to the Microsoft Utility Program and JavRa everything was gone.

I did a virus scan and got this, I'm not sure if it will help.

    "Warnings"
    "";"File";"Infection";"Result"
    "";"C:\Documents and Settings\Mark (Anubis)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\AN6G7W72\trialsetup[2].exe";"Corrupted executable file";"Moved to Virus Vault"

I might be unavailable for awhile and thanks again so much for your time Tim.

What scanner found this? Perhaps you should let us check for malware on your system, follow these instructions and post a thread in the Malware forum once you have the requested logs:

Thank you all again for the help as i have fixed the problem as of today 4/20.
I used Free Window Registery Repair and scanned the system for problems about 10 times and deleted the problems i found then i disabled both my firewall and anti-virus and reinstalled Java and it worked!!!
