that is simply put the best display of drumming I've ever seen. I'm a drummer myself and that guy was amazing.

 

The guy certainly has control of the sticks.

Some of the oldies were good as well, maybe i am biased because i am so old

I think he practices by tying a weight to his feet and jumping in some water.

Good tunes though,one way to get on youtube if your just covering ZZ top tunes and you can only afford jackets made from old solar panels.

Maybe he was bored with playing Texas rock and needed to 'express himself'! :-D A decent drummer IMO.

I don't know of a better drummer than Neil Peart. If there are better drummers I have not heard them.

 

The drummer shows how you can get an intense workout, without even getting out of your chair! :-D

But it was fun to watch, good to listen to.

 

OMG you're jumping on the bandwagon, while he's a great drummer he's far from the best, maybe the best to come out of Hamilton or southern Ontario but in the world?... not a chance. (trying to name a park or street is it? after him in Hamilton)

I hate to say it but some of the best drummers are the metal band drummers. My boy listens to metal with the growling etc, all these guys are amazing musicians (except the so called singer who isn't actually singing) and personally I think it's wasted talent on so-called music that has very little constant rythm or melody. Most of the songs my boy listens to simply sound like a lot of noise backed by an M60 machine gun with the drummer going spacky on the double kick lol
Put some of these guys in a Rock or Blues band and they will really shine. It's not how fast you can play, it's how fluently.

I really like Neil Peart too and put him up there but not at the very best level but not far from there. Of course this is all subjective as is my distaste for metal, it's not that it 'has very little constant rythm or melody' as I like free jazz, it's the banging on the drums instead of playing them that turns me off due to the volumes the sound it is played at. I do like the freenzy of metal though.

I have felt that way since the mid 80's so no bandwagon jumping here. I'm sure there could be some better out there which is why I said I have not heard them and he is the best that I know of.

Far from the best? That sounds like you believe many people are better but you didn't list them so who are all those people? Those that Bill listed would be the only one's here in this thread so far that could be considered to be better since Peart admired them and learned their styles but I have never heard them so I couldn't say they're better or not.

Ok, ok, I apoligise for my post sounding somewhat simply argumentative. I just never understood why such a fuss was/is made about him, not to mention I here it on the radio all the time about how he's so wonderful and never really felt he was anything that special.
It's all personal preference really, you think he is, I don't.... simple as that

 

He is actually pretty darn entertaining, and talented.
