    (RANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok i am working with a friend on the weekends to pay off the car i got from him. i still owe $135 (i paid him $165 already because he wanted $300 and for me to help him on weekends) well last night i sent him a message and i been telling him for weeks that i don't like driving a stick (5 speed manule S10 with no tail lights or anything) and that if we got pulled over it would be my fault and most likily go to jail if someone rear ended me. he will not drive because he lost his for driving DUI of drugs:rolleyes: and so i told him i can not drive his truck no more because of all the rear lights beeing out. well he went off the deep end and said if i don't bring that car over to his house today and leave it there he would report it stolen and have me picked up:mad:. is that true can he do that because i feared for my own well beeing and not want to drive his truck no more?

all i told him last night was and i quote
and here is the message i got while i was asleep and what i sent back to him
so what do y'all good people make of this? is there anything i can do? after all the pay ments i made was from working with him up there at the flea market or working on computers for him

    (END RANT)

OK... if I get this right, you bought his truck off him and are working for him to pay it off? Did you get the vehicle registration documents off him like in all transactions so you can prove this is your vehicle? ( dont know what you have in the USA *pinkslip* springs to mind but all vehicle transactions in UK are accompanied by a transfer of ownership document )

if you havn't got this or some other contract of ownership then its very possible he could say its stolen as what proof do you have hearsay/word of mouth contacts are a PITA to prove in court or to politzia!

also do I read this right that he wants his truck back now and will not be refunding any cash you have paid?

Not the type of friend you want I feel as it looks to me as if he's using you to make money for himself off you fixing PCs!!

You spoken to parents about it? That's what I'd do first, then if necessary, contact the police because under no circumstance can you be forced to drive something.

I would say your boss is a stand up dude. But maybe you shouldnt show him the lifesaver dress :D
This is why people say never make a deal with friends.
It never works out and you could lose a friend.

Until the Registration, Title and Plates are in your name its not your "Stinkin Lincoln." Insurance is another issue.

And you are right if you're driving his truck you get the ticket(s) for all infractions. If he has a past with drugs, you are risk of getting charged if he has them in "his" truck which "you" are driving. And since he got a DUI can he afford insurance on the truck which he can no longer legally drive?

I would avoid that FRIEND now that do don't owe him anything.

If you bought that car from him and have proof of ownership, I'd take that car and get it checked out. As in, make sure there isn't any drugs and whatnot in it.

i do beleave there are no drugs init because when i got it i pulled all the seats out and did a good cleaning of the inside thin did the same to the trunk i went over that car inch by inch so if there is any init they would have to be in the gas tank;)

Just for future reference since it's worked out for you, make sure if you pay cash, get receipts, friend or no friend.
Work the rest off, always write these things down and both of you should sign it.
Whatever the deal, if you don't pay the whole thing off at the time, get it in writing, covers both your butts! :)

The car isn't truly "yours" until he transfers the title to you, & you get your own license plates and insurance for it.

And you're right. If you get stopped driving his truck, YOU'LL get the ticket. Also, if he's had his licence revoked, he likely doesn't have any insurance for it either, and YOU'LL be responsibly personally for any accidents etc. that might occur, plus you can get ticketed in most states these days for driving without insurance. It's not worth the risk; don't drive it. His life is his problem, and he's dragging you into his problems.

Yikes! Goodness no! LMAO Bottom line...you ARE a lifesaver...especially when we have threads that can easily turn sour with a slew of misinformation ....then you put in the correct information and all is well:D:D

But, you are sweet and I think you look kinda cute with that mustache and in that costume...now if it wasn't for the fact I had other things to do, I had intended to animate it too....another day eh? *grin*
