    Hi Everyone.
[Alittle unsure in this somewhat different forum design.] Well, I have what I think is a unique, and kinda scary, situation. I don't know exactly where to post this. I have been banned from an internet magazine called "Alternet". They are quite left wing. I have some ideas that are leftist, and some that are rightist. I wrote a comment using no abusive or insulting or profane terms. I believe I have commented there before. I have been commenting lately on a facebook page that is favorable to Israel and I am very in favor of their side of things. When I tried to post my 'alternet" comment, I got a message saying that "you are banned from Alternet." I clicked the 'more info' button and it took me to a page run by Disqus [I comment thru them all the time] telling me to contact "Alternet" and ask why I was banned. Before I did that I commented elsewhere on Disqus and the comment posted just fine. So I tried to contact "Alternet" as directed. I went to their contact us form, and when I tried to fill it out nothing would print on the form anywhere. I retyped stuff and still nothing went on to the form. There was no phone number. I cleared my history and retried the typing, same thing. Could type elsewhere of course, but not on the form. I disconnected my cable connection, ran c cleaner, went back on internet and to the Alternet form, tried again to type on it and again could not. This worries me. I still remember being harassed by Arabic students in college course when I said something positive about Israel, wasn't even important or confrontational. So am wondering if I have been hacked, esp. as I thought my ip address changed whenever I disconnected and then went back online, so how do they even know it is me? I don't know what to do and would appreciate your help and advice.

I forgot to mention that I comment on the facebook site with a different user name from the one I used on 'Alternet', which really makes this strange. I have done nothing to be banned for.

Alternet is a left-wing news site.
They won't allow you to post anything pro-Israel.
They thrive on criticising the right-wingers, criticising the pro-gun lobby, criticising white police officers shooting black criminals, criticising Israel for defending itself against Islamic terrorists, they want the US to open it's borders to Islamic terrorists and Latino drug dealers, etc.
In a nutshell... liberal prejudice and stupidity at it's best (worst).

FYI With Disqus you can comment on Breitbart news and do the same to the left-wingers. Each to his own...

I think I would derive from that type of occurrence that my ideas can accomplish more in another forum or another venue and that I would be wasting my time to try and continue to express my views on the site. I would just ignore the ban and move on. Hopefully, it will all end there. Maybe you can find another place to express your views that will resonate with others and have a positive affect.

If you run into problems, please post and let us know about what's happening...

Thanks Eldon, it is reassuring to know that I am not the only one. But I wasn't posting about Israel. They had written an article talking about why the occupy movement "imploded". I wrote that they followed a rigid script that didn't allow for a multiplicity of views; that different people had varying views as to issues and how to approach them, and hence they lost people. As if to prove my point, they banned my post. Why this is in software is because I couldn't type into the contact form to try to find out the problem. And again, my post wasn't about Israel. I did follow a link from someone who knows me to be pro-Israel and who is pro-palestinian. But how would that person even know I was on his facebook page as I no longer post on that page and have not for a good while. So how were they able to know I was pro-Israel since I posted my views on a pro-Israel page under a different user name? How were they able to keep me from typing into the form? So on.

    AtlBo,
I didn't post on that page about Israel. What was in my post was in my reply to Eldon above. So why would they ban me, or even know I was pro-Israel. How were they able to keep my typed words from appearing on the form?
Worry I have been hacked and am being tracked.

I think we have all been through the same thing alterintel. I feel it's just a matter of staying focused on whatever it is that matters to you and find a way to stay connected and productive (in the internet sense). I mean, if you're going to use the net, you might as well try to make it count for something.

To get it straight, you think the Facebook post caused the alternet ban? Further, you can't figure out how they could have known it was you? Someone must have known somehow if that's what happened. Otherwise, I guess they just didn't like your alternet post. The ban from typing sounds grievious because it sounds like Disqus has something to do with it. Maybe an alternet mod sent them a request to have your request denied.

I see the dark side of what you are looking at. I promise it's been around since there was an internet. As strange as it seems, the truth is it's probably stranger lol. Try not to worry about it is my 2 cents.

Let us know if you have an issue...

AtlBo, I appreciate your input. I think the post was innocuous enough. I think facebook posts on a pro Israel fb page were the cause. I followed a link to alternet thru a fb page of someone who is pro palestine but knows my name on fb. I have not posted on that page in a long time. I posted on fb under a different user name from the one I use on disqus, so how would alternet even be able to connect me to the other page, tho the names were similiar. It was alternet who banned me, not disqus. I can post on other disqus site. Disqus said to contact the alternet mod, as I said. When I tried to, as I said, I was unable to type anything into the alternet 'contact us' form. no phone no.

    alterintel,
    Have a look here.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_smartdefrag.html

When you have a Disqus account, you can comment, reply to or share a comment - including on Facebook and Twitter, and/or you can flag a comment/reply as inappropriate.
Every website that uses Disqus has it's own moderators. You're correct, Alternet banned you by banning your IP address. That stopped you from completing the form - I checked and could type into the form.
On a site like that, anything remotely pro-Israel, pro-Donald Trump, anti-Obama, anti-Palestine, etc. will get you banned.

FYI I can see your IP address.

Eldon, I don't share comments on other sites with facebook, or facebook comments with other sites. I have different user names for the sites. I thought when I disconnected using cable and went back on my ip changed. The company told me my ip was not stable, that it changed. I told them I wanted a changing ip and they said it was. So if it changes, how do they [alternet]know its me? And do people know if you are on their fb page if you don't post?
I thought they had no way of knowing. That is what fb says.

Anybody could have shared your Disqus comments on Facebook or Twitter.

Hypothetically - I share your Disqus comments on Facebook. From there I share it on left-wing Facebook pages. They get their trolls to click on the link, and they all report you. Before you know it, you're banned.

Hypothetically - I notice your IP is different everytime you visit MajorGeeks. I inform the other moderators/administrators and we all agree - you're up to no good and we ban you.

FYI What you have just posted in this thread, can be shared on Facebook, Twitter & Google+.
You should change your Privacy settings to Members Only, or People You Follw Only.

Omg, thank you for this. I did not know these things. However, it was pretty stupid of me not to.

It's not you being stupid. I doubt more than 1 in 10 internet users know what's really going on.
I use Avast Antivirus Free and it includes Avast Online Security. I can see all the sites that tried to track me. This includes Twitter - I don't have a Twitter account!

I will download that program. I am using 'advanced system care' free. Was satisfied with it although they really will load you up with excess stuff, so you must be more careful of that than usual with them. Don't know why they do that as I was satisfied with the basic program and what it does. Now I feel the need for a really strong security program. Still feel I have been hacked.

Many sites use Disqus for commenting. It's up to the owners of those sites to moderate, not Disqus.
For peace of mind, do contact you cable company.
