Today, deep in the badlands of Scotland, I was trying to sell some excess computer gear at a car boot sale, (you probably think of it as a garage sale).
A young bloke was buying some cds, and as we were talking , he happened to mention he repaired computers for a living. I asked him if he had seen the latest letter from Lavasoft, and he said that he had got it from Majorgeeks. He is not a member , but says that MG has been a source of knowledge for him for a long time now, and I quote :- " I could not get along without some of the downloads and advice taken from that site!"
So the next time you get a letter from a moron , remember they are outnumbered by people who appreciate the good work you do!

it is just to bad that some of us (me included) are NOT computer literate. I do try to read up on all posts and faqs b-4 i ask a question. i also understand that all replies given are much appreciated (at least in my case ) I myself am trying to learn computers, but when something is advertised as FREE and someone does not "get it" well that is just someone being dumb.That person needs to read b-4 barking at a kind informant.
in any case i sometime or another will ask a stupid question and will be laughed at, but a dumb question is better that not asking.

Well, 2 this month and 1 from two months ago. There is another lady, that I was thinking of sending but I didn't bother. She would drive everyone crazy. She is the type that would prefer someone just go to her house and fix it for her.

I'm not sure how to take that...

She's one of the stupidest women I know...I was, in fact, fascinated to learn she even owns a computer. I sent her to the repair shop in town I use...I figure they make $65.00 per hour, they can listen to her.

 

I was wrong then,..........I know somebody that has two or three computers in her house, others use them, but she won't even lift a finger to help herself...........she think's she can just call me at any time of the day or night. She's called a 3:00am, because she was up, and thought that I would be up as well...............wobbles

 

I was discussing our network here at work with our resident computer guru and voiced my concern regarding Internet Explorer. He became quite animated and stated that IE is the finest browser in existence and that programs like FireFox et al are only trying to scare people into using their product. His opinion on virii, BHO's and malware? "Our Norton Corporate takes care of it all, don't worry about it". I keep a copy of CrapCleaner and SpyBot S/D on CD here in the office and take a lot of stuff out all of the time. This guy gets paid big bucks and is this anal...this is why I get frustrated also.

 

Let it crash. I would. Well, unless your doing something your not to be doing on the computer...(certain sites that my contain spyware and viruses). When it crashes, tell him to call someone to fix it. Term: NOT MY JOB!

 

Totally. No matter how much I ever get to know about computers, this is the attitude that I will ALWAYS take!

I will never "help out" IT people where I work, ever. It is only inviting trouble.
Because, then you become the scapegoat if anything ever goes wrong....

Yeah, when it comes to their computers, I know NOTHING.

 

If he can't adapt.. it's over. Get a new IT guy.
Unfortunately I can't use FF here for my users because the county sites are IE specific.. not to mention that it's not on their list of supported software. I have to go through this whole proposal in order to get some things changed. It's truly rediculous. In any case, I would dread having to teach our users how to use something as simple as FF because it's so simple that it's too complex for them to comprehend.

I liked IE too. It worked fine for me and with MyIE2, I had most of the novelties of the other browsers. I was hard pressed to find a browser that could take its' place. After the last security hole, it was a no brainer. I had to find something. Things can only go so far... But I say this now. The pendulum swings. People (maldev's) don't care about #2..it's #1 that they don't like. Once secondary software starts becoming popular, you will notice an increase in security watches for it. It's the nature of the beast.
