Yahoo.com is my home page. I see today she is trying to get some kind of online petition to avoid jail time. Come one, she was drunk, and driving on a suspended license because she got a DUI! 45 days, heck should be more than that in my opinion.

Now I rarely get into politics and such in this forum due to the nature of the place, and I have odd views, but this made me mad! So I would like to encourage all the California geeks to send the Terminator an Email saying she should go to jail. And heck, even if you are not in CA, send one anyway. I did! And I am sure Arnold is reading right now.:D

This quote sums up my opinion:

"One experienced attorney who specialises in driving under the influence (DUI) cases said: "Her chances of winning an appeal are little to none. The prosecutors had a slam dunk case. The evidence was overwhelming that she repeatedly violated her probation."

I wouldn’t waste my time towards any sort of response on a web appeal for her.

That girl bores me to tears...she typifies an "air head" imho.

I agree with you. But I still emailed the Terminator...:D

It would just really piss me off if she did no time for her repeated stupid acts. And that is in California.

    LOL.. I hear ya Fred.

My lawyer and I were talking about that the other night, he figured Arny will smack her back down to avoid irritating of groups like MADD, SADD, RADD and others.

I am waiting to see what happens. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now. That's all I know.

True... of course, I was thinking that he is in a position where if he caves to Paris, he is going to get it from the rest of us, if he doesn't, I am betting there will be a few of his hollywood cronies up in arms about it :)

Have to see what comes of it :)

Well, I don't normally follow the Paris Hiltons of the world. This just pisses me off personally. I got a DWI back in 1999, and yep, I made a bad decision, and luckily nobody got killed.

But you know what, I learned, if you drink, don't drive. I did my 2 years probation, 40 hours of community service, and paid a 1k fine, and lost my job. I got a new job, still looking for one now, but I learned. It was a real financial hardship on me, and to this day I cannot get a job delivering stuff. And I deserve that, even though I did not get drunk at work and drive the company car, I still get the hassles from it. I LEARNED! Have not even gotten pulled over since.

She got a DUI while on probation for a DUI, and she shouldn't go to jail? Think about it, it you had to go to jail for 45 days, well, if you are like me, you would lose your house, maybe your car, things would be bad. She will just lose 45 days of being a famous, and wealthy Bit##.

Wow, I found something to rant on.:D Been a while for that.

It gets better, and yes, I am legally drunk while I type this. But I am not driving!

    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/PH21781/

Oh sure, it sounds sincere, until you realize Bit## was on probation for a DUI at the time, and was driving on a suspended license. And said license was suspended for what?

She should have thought about it before she got lit up and drove while on probation for the same thing.

And I am sorry if anyone is offended by my statements here. This just makes me mad.

Better yet, she repeatedly violated her probation IN FRONT OF CAMERAS! I'm not sure about my fellow geeks here, but I can't fart in the wind with out some jack booted thug from the guvment showing up to smash my head in with a club and level jail time along with a huge fine. Where as she repeatedly violated every condition of her probation, in front of cameras, and almost got away with it.

Yeah, there is no double standard at work at all. Justice is blind and all that hog wash.

we could only hope that Joe was running the show, but no, we aren't that lucky.

the penal system in CA is so screwed up that she might not even serve the full 45 days anyway. they routinely half the required time to serve then give extra time off for good behavior. as long as she doesn't throw feces around or start a riot she might be out in as few as 5 days.

and people claim that humans don't need to have a comet just slam into the planet...

Heres my thing, you guys all call briteny and her mom dumb and what not, but you don't know them personally, all that you here about is what the media reports, and obviously the media isn't gonna report any good things she does. No matter what you read in the news, your never gonna hear a complete story. Keep that in mind, and im not saying i don't think she doesn't deserve jail time for her recent actions or what not, but again just saying, a lot of child stars have issues simlar, its hard to say but its very possibly that becoming very famous so young has had a good part of this happening. Ie there are a few other child stars, that have had similar problems.

Who mentioned brittany spears confused She isnt a child star shes a nobody shes persued fame of her own free will for fames sake,to me fame is an unwanted side effect of being really good at something it isnt an occupation, she has manufactured her own fame and in doing so automatically took on world opinion, thats what fame does its all part and parcel

BTW brittany spears thought time travel is possible because she saw it in back to the future:D

I believe were talking about the Heiress Paris Hilton, not Briteney Spears the star, Colemanguy! And I think the reason most of us are P/O'd at her is her statements and those of her family against the Judge who sentenced her. Hey you do the Crime you Pay is the way I see it.

But I do agree, that most of us just see what is reported in the Media, but that old saying "Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword" comes to mind for most Public figures. They court the Media on the way up, then diss it when there on the top.

The real tragedy that has only grown over the years is that "Famous" people are just becoming more and more detached from us every day "Joe's/Jane's".

Sorry typed Britney ment paris, really the same thing though, same kind of fame, both grew up with all there actions in the headlines. Its really not fair it judge them. For example if i get drunk and crash a car, it doesn't appear in the headlines, if paris/Britney get drunk and crash a car its news. I just think its funny that people are quick to judge celebrities but complain when they get judged. Just my two cents in the deal.

Say for instance a celebrity gets caugt with cocaine, e`s or weed. They goto court and get slapped wrists. There are numerous reports of famous people here in the UK who get arrested for possesion.

If I got arrested with drugs, or any other commoner for that matter. We would be looking at a short stretch in prison. I know people who have been locked up for possesion of 1/2 a gram of cocaine. Yet I see celeb`s being arrested with maybee 3-4 grams and getting a telling off and at the worst a few hour community service.

I do not condone drugs, the sale, or the use of. But I ask is this fair? and is it a good example for kids to see on the news?

    I doubt it.

  25. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

I think you summed up my rant there Wayne82. Famous person gets caught with drugs, they get a slap on the wrist. Average paycheck to paycheck Joe gets hit with the same, they will most likely lose everything they have.

And where I live, with all the political corruption, it is all about what lawyer you can afford, and what judge you can bribe or what politician you know. Makes me sick. And the average person is the one that pays.

Sure, if you do the crime, do the time, but make that apply to everyone.

The response from the Terminator's people:

Although the Governor's office has not received a formal request for assistance from Ms. Hilton, the Governor generally will not consider intervening in private legal matters. While the Governor does have executive clemency power, Governor Schwarzenegger will exercise his clemency power only in unusual or extraordinary cases and generally after all judicial remedies have been exhausted.

On behalf of the Governor, thank you again for writing. An informed and engaged citizenry is essential to a successful and responsive government.

imo, You're making fair comments Colemanguy, higher scrutiny and criticism is more focused on celebrities than to simple folk like us.

Also your other comment (imho) provides an accurate summary on how a growing up environment affects later adulthood: "a lot of child stars have issues similar, it's hard to say but its very possible that becoming very famous so young has had a good part of this happening..." Criminal profile studies show that a growing environment (rich or poor) often are contributing factors.

Regarding comments from Maxwell and Burning_Monkey:
Legislation varies between countries (as well as State to State) but the basic rule of law applies. That is, legislation and regulations outlines penalties which includes scaling the penalty dependent on level of offence (how serious), and takes into consideration circumstances, character of offender, etc.

When the same offence is repeated (eg violate probation), scaling again applies (scale between maximum to minimum penalties - eg number of days imprisonment which can include a fine). Magistrates (Judges) do have some leverage on decision of what to impose for an offence.

Appeals (which is what Paris is doing) against a decision if successful may either lessen or change the original sentencing.

Although I'm not familiar with American law and the influence of public leaders, I still very much doubt that a judge's decision (particularly for something "minor" - ie not being a murder trial) can be overturned by your "Ernie" imo.

    Cheers

    LS

obviously, Paris should not have to suffer the indignity of spending time in jail. and obviously, having to do without her cell phone would just be more of an injustice. obviously. we as a society, have failed this young street urchin and turned her to this path of wanton self destruction. it is our fault. we have failed her.
What a crock of you know what!
it's called personal responsibility and there is no more of it in most of today's society. it is never the perpetrators fault; it can always be traced back to some one in their life who might have said an unkind word (as, hey, sit up straight at the table and don't play with your food) or maybe they got their behind smacked by an evil parent. so, see, she is really not at fault, so no punishment is do; however, we must find out the underlying cause and prevent this from happening to others in the future. we need a committee or study to pursue the real cause of why this happened in the first place. if it would save just one child, wouldn't it be worth it?
    Bullcrap
give her the 120 days she should be getting! oh, and a box of kleenex.

FredG, my comments against Maxwell and Burning_Monkey's posts concur with these comments. That is:

    • the rule of law applies for Paris - ie penalty on Paris imposed by judge applies

    • changing of a judge's decision in Paris' case is dependent on court procedure not word from the Governor (Mr Campbell referred to this as "clemency power", and would only apply to more serious crimes in exceptional circumstances....Paris' case doesn't fall under that banner. She can now only hope that an Appeal lodged by her lawyer (not what is on a web site) can be considered by a court to change the current sentencing.)

Her lawyer will have to have a pretty good plea in his appeal to the court to get Paris off or the sentence lowered. imho, that "good plea" should have been used in the first instance.

Personally, I don't feel sorry for her because she still has that sensibility of self responsibility. I still agree with Colemanguy's earlier comments in that her attitude and actions appear based on her way of growing up and her environment where she obviously doesn't appear to have learned the meaning of responsibility.

Had she been in Australia with our DUI laws and concerning repeatedly violating probation, she would have had more than just the 45 days!

Personally, I think it all goes back to when our society stopped beating kids. Now I do not have kids, and do not mean abuse. All this time out stuff, bahh, I got beat!

Back in the day, if I messed up at school, I got the paddle. A phone call was made, then I got more at the house. I was never abused. Just learned actions have consequences. One of the most ominous things my mother could say to me was 'Wait till your father comes home...'

And then we have these arse clowns who are raised by who knows, and they don't think that laws apply to them, because, a lot of times they don't.

Put the stupid ( ) in jail.

Hmm, let me see what I can think of here about corruption, police officer with a felony fired, city judge guilty of stealing got a 6 month suspension, La senator or congressman with $90k of illegal money found in his freezer got reelected, the last 2 or 3 state insurance commissioner's are in jail, and I can go on but I am tired.

A lot of good points made here. IMHO, primarily among them is the one about corporal punishment (no Jim, not you). We jsut went through this recently with my son whose report card has kept going south this year. He is now finding himself without a lot of the perks he has come to enjoy when he is at my house on the weekends. We had a long discussion about bad choices and consequences thereof.

Mind you, I never beat him, although he did get spanked now and then when he was younger, but usually the threat of a spanking was enough to keep him in line.

Unfortunately, his mother does not enforce this at home during the week. I call in the evening to talk to him and make sure his homework is done and half the time she has dragged him out and about instead of having him do his homework. Going out to dinner or out for ice cream are not (IMHO) justifiable reasons for putting off the homework (this is one of the MAJOR issues at school, is homework not getting done and handed in). This is getting o the point where I am getting ready to take legal actions to ensure that I have the opportunities to make sure he has the academic support he needs at home.

Kids these days have no real understanding of respect and consequences and that is what has the society of the US in general circling the drain. (Mind you it is not all younglings, but unfortunately, the vast majority)

Bring back corporal punishement to the schools and get rid of welfare as a career and you might start to see some change. again, IMHO

Wow...so this is in the news outside the states? lol Here I thought you all might be lucky and not have to listen to all this crap our media puts out.

My 2 cents...throw her butt in jail. Might help straighten her whole life out. She's pretty much a waste of space at this point.

'zactly!!! I was just having this conversation with a couple of friends the other day. My two are taught that for every action there is a reaction...good or bad...and they are responsible and have to face those reactions..no one is getting them out of them. Too many parents teach their kids now days that they'll get them out of every problem the kids get themselves into...right or wrong.
