Since I installed IE7, I keep getting this webpage cannot be displayed. Its getting worse eveyday. I am sooooooooooo sick of it. Well today I got this message winsock provider not working. It asked it I wanted my computer to fix it and I said yes.

Now what could be causing all this. I have two computers in my home and both are doing the same thing.

I am using ATT internet. They keep telling me nothing is wrong on their end.

Its even interfering with my yahoo email now also. I have to open and reopen email after email until it opens. Yahoo also told me its not on their end.

Does anyone know what I can do to stop this from happening.

I am so fed up right now.

Thank you all for your help.

have you changed any other settings since you installed ie7? have you tried clearing your cache? tools --> internet options --> delete button --> then empty stuff on the next page

or if you had ccleaner, you could run that.

is your ie7 setup to "never dial a connection"? tools --> internet options --> connections tab (pic below)?

have you tried another browser, like firefox, or even the att browser if you installed it (which is kinda like ie)?

Yes I have done all that and I do use ccleaner. But I did notice in the box you have sbc-austin and there is nothing in my box at all. Is that a problem.
the box with dial up and virtual private network settings.

the sbc-austin in my box is a dialup #. when my dsl went out, i was able to use dialup until i got it fixed. have you tried another browser to see if it works? have you tried to reset all the settings to default in ie (tools, internet options, advanced tab)? might want to check lan settings (tools, ineternet options, connections tab), screenshot below.

ps, i wouldn't change everything at once, so you know what worked, or what didn't. g/l, sos

http://www.majorgeeks.com/TCP_Optimizer_d2104.html <-- maybe this will fix your winsock error?

edit - have you tried resetting your dsl modem? i'm sure if you contacted att, they had you reset it, by unplugging it for a couple of minutes? which att modem do you have (siemens, or motorola)? is it a little square box about 3 x 4 inches or so? my g/f's work had an intermittent modem (siemens brand), and they had to reset it about 2-3 times a day everyday. finally i called att, and we went round and round (it failed their online test), however when i reset the modem it worked. the lady told me that if the lights were all on, the modem was good. i finally jumped in her &%$#, and she x-ferred me to their manager, who x-ferred me to somebody else. to make a long story short (well not short anymore), it was a bad modem. after we replaced the modem they have not had to reset it since.

is there anybody around you that you can borrow their modem, or try yours at their place?
