    Hello to all!!

I'm new to this forum, I found it while searching for a solution to a problem that I have with my home network.

I really hope that you can help me, since it has me at wits end. OK on with the situation:

I have a TG585 v8 Thomson Modem Router with Telmex Internet Service in Mexico. The Firmware version that it has is 8.6.E.I. It has 4 ethernet ports as well as wireless capabilities.

On the home network I have:

    1) a desktop computer running Windows 7 that is connected through ethernet cable (No problems with that)

    2) one laptop computer that is connected through an ethernet cable, but that can also use wireless without any problems. Running windows 7.

    3) two android tablets that connect wirelessly with no problems.

    4) and finally the problem computer. It runs windows 7. Up to about 3 weeks ago, this computer could connect through an ethernet cable or through wireless, however it started having problems with the wired connection and now it can only connect wirelessly. As a matter of fact, whenever I connect an ethernet cable to it, modem/router loses its connection to the internet and as long as I keep the cable connected to my laptop, it will not be able to establish a connection to the internet. As soon as I disconnect the ethernet cable, in a few minutes the modem/router reestablishes the internet connection and everything works again.

With this computer I use a Maxtor One Touch External Hard Drive connected through an usb port without any problem, but when I tried using it with my other laptop or with the desktop computer, it generates the exact same problem, the modem/router loses the internet connection and remains disconnected until I disconnect the external hard drive.

I know this is very weird and I really hope that you can help me.

One question, searching for firmware updates I found a newer version but it is for an internet provider from another country, could I use it to update my modem router.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!

    Max
