Thought of the day!!

Me and the wife kind of got off to a bit of a rough start this morning, and kind of ruined a good friday!! But then I come to check my e-mails and got this from a friend and it kind of got me turned in a better direction, so I thought I would share it here....

    ATTITUDE

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

"Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M, " she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said, "Today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "YEAH!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"

Attitude is everything. As the saying goes: "The kind of life you will have isn't determined by what happens to you, it’s determined by your reaction to what happens to you."

Have a Good Day. Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

    Good thought rog.

In a similar vein, I've been awake all night due to yesterday's chemo session, but that's pretty normal. Last week I had some MAJOR and unexpected trouble sleeping and pain, which made me nervous that the current chemo was losing effect, and that appears not to be the case. Happiness is relative. I'm happy to back to my "normal" annoyances.

Another benefit... I had an appointment for today, when I'm HOME, for a washer repair man to fix my crippled washing machine, and they got my zip code wrong, couldn't schedule the guy yesterday, left me a message, and by the time I got home after chemo they'd already canceled the apointment. Since I'm up when they opened, I called them as soon as THEY opened, and it looks like they'll be able to sandwich me in today anyway. Sometimes even sleepless has it's advantages. ;)

Great thought ....as they say; when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Going to the doctor today, and depending on what he says, we are already devising ways for me to organize wheelchair races.

    Keep a good thought.

Hope and pray you'll be able to organize from the sidelines, but if not, I'll be cheering for you to win the races. Maybe we can set up a lemonade stand together.

Hey, I got tons of lemons here.....can I squeeze with you guys? ;)

Seriously though, it makes me sad to read of all our struggles. I've been thinking and taking encouragement from you, Gary, for the last 2 weeks, after being diagnosed with new health issues that require some medication with pretty nasty side effects. You are such a trooper throughout your chemo, and I love to read your posts that shine such a bright light where others would only see darkness. Kudos to you Gary :)

TimW....prayers are with you. I have plenty of ice to go with the lemonade if you need it ;)

Roger - big hugs to you and your wife...take some time out this weekend to spoil one another :)

Halo.....keep up the merlot to avoid bad days :p

    You guys are awesome :D

@Lev: You're welcome to join. Maybe we should call it the Major Geeks Lemonade Stand And Computer Repair Center. There are others that could contribute to it. :)

Last couple weeks wasn't due to anything new. One of the IV drips I get that helps prevent bone loss comes in a 4 week dose, and my chemo must be done every 3 weeks. Rather than miss another day of work every month we've been stretching that one to just once every six weeks to fit the chemo schedule, which worked fine. Doc decided that it was safe to try it every 3 weeks, which was actually an OVERdose, and after a couple of those, my body started protesting, so we're going back to the six week interval, which was working OK. Nothing new, just a bad call on dosage. Was a bit spooky until I figured out what was doing it. All the symptoms fit, and it was the only thing changed recently. Doc concurs with my self-diagnosis. Maybe I should charge him a consulting fee for figuring it out. :D

Good to hear you got it figured out. I think you should at least get a discount from the doc for your effort ;)

I'd try for it, but I think it's against their union rules. Medicine/dentistry is the only field I know where people get paid top dollar to "practice". :D

Either that or make him wait out in the waiting room until YOU are ready for HIM!!! However...it sounds like you are happy with your doctor so maybe that wouldn't be nice either!!

Glad you guys figured it out!! Some doctors wouldn't even hear what you have to say...so It's nice that apparently you and the doc are on the same page!!

Gotta say...(using you and Abby as examples because you are the only ones that I'm fully aware of your saituation...I'm sure there are you others on here, like lev, but I've not quite put 2 and 2 together on what's the situation)...but anyway...I do quite often remind myself of you troopers that are handling things so well, when all I did was have a rumbling with my wife!!

I just don't think my wife truly understands how my past with my father, has affected still to this day, how I feel when someone else is upset with me, or even just upset and not at me, but I'm in the direct path!! I've tried to tell her, but I don't think she really truly grasp what I'm try to say!! But...I just had a nice I.M. session with her mother and I feel better now!!

@ Lev...Thanks for the hugs!!!! I was actually thinking about having a pizza delivered to her at work as a surprise, but then I would have to worry about if she would be upset about me spending the money when we aren't exactly rich right now!! Can't seem to win for loosing here!!!! LOL, LOL

@ GT...Thanks for the daily insperations, even though you might not even be aware of it!!

@ Lev, again...gotta say...I know it might not be any of my business and/or you don't want to divulge online...but this curious cat is going nuts wondering what whole situation is!! I know you had the surgery for whatever, but I thought you said you fully recovered...or maybe I'm just missing something here!! I'm known to be a bit slow, quite often!!!!

LOL. Thank you. I stand corrected. Although I think I'd rather have doctors practicing on me than lawyers. :D

Then you probably don't want to see that thread that had the stuff about doctors causing more deaths than guns ....(oops ...crap....did I say that ...shut your mouth you idiot ...now he knows!!!)

@ Roger - thanks for your kind words and concern. I did have surgery and I did fully recover from all that. This latest health stuff is a new development that is not related, and I'm just not able to talk about it right now. Suffice to say it isn't life threatening, but the meds are pretty tough going on the old body. Thank you for caring :)

If money is tight, why not just send her a single rose. You will have every female co-worker in her office totally envious of such attention :D I guess as you are expecting your first child together it is only natural to look back on your own relationship with your own parents more critically, as you venture into parenthood yourself, trying to not make the same "mistakes". As parents we are never perfect......I raise my hand high to that one...but we can strive to be the best parent we can be :)

Actually, he's a very good doctor. Not only keeps up with the latest in his field, he does NOT usually keep his patients waiting a long time, and spends whatever time is necessary and listens, which means he plans a smaller work load (and less income) than he might try for. A lot of the meds used in cancer are somewhat trial and error. Some things work better for a certain individual than others do, and some people have reactions that others don't. Most of the stuff I'm on have long lists of possible side effects, some of them very scary, most of which I'm lucky enough NOT to get.

(shrug) Problems with a spouse are not all trivial, and can be more painful than with those NOT as close to us. I finally had to give up on an impossible marriage after 4 marriage counselors and many bad years. If you hold it together, you've got at least one area where you've got me beat. ;) We can't usually control how we feel about a situation, but we CAN control how we react to it. It would be ideal if she heard what you were saying and didn't get mad, but to some extent, other people's anger is something we all have to deal with sometimes. How you respond to it can make a big difference in how it plays out.
Well, I'm still pretty much just the same old me, just with a few more problems to deal with. Somehow Cancer (we all think of it with a capital "C") seems scarier than other problems, but there are lots of tough challenges that can bite you. And eventually, for all of us, one of them will bite hard enough to kill us, sure as taxes. All any of us can do is cope the best we can, and try not to lose who we are. The older we get, the more certain we are to have some bite marks here and there. It comes with the territory. (shrug)

Well, I guess the new doctor is still practicing ....his final conclusion? "Well. could be, I don't know. Stop taking this med and if it goes away, then cool. Take this other med and if it goes away, not so cool. Call me in a month."

Already knew that. Have owned guns for years, and they haven't killed me yet. Thought about trying to just shoot the cancer, but I think that would cause more problems than the doctors do. ;)

Yep, still practicing. Tough to play drawn out guessing games. Don't know what you've got, but are there no tests or scans that might help nail it down? At least he hasn't promoted you to Captain of the Wheelchair Team yet, sounds like, which is good.

No scans, nothing that is definative diagnosticaly ....what we have been suspecting is Post Polio ....symptoms are a dead ringer, physically I still have good muscle strength, which makes him doubtful. But I was having a "good" day yesterday.

He thought maybe my cholesterol med was the cause (which I've been on for 10 years) and stopped taking last night to see if it is in fact what is doing it, though all the reseach seems to indicate that it would be systemic, not localized to just my legs.

Also gave me a pain med. that if it provides relief on the "bad" days, would lead him to rethink his doubts.

Gee, ain't it great to grow old?

LOL. Not always, but it usually beats the only alternative. ;) There are still good things we'd miss out on, even with the annoyances. I'm currently fighting to stick around long enough to GET old. :D

Case in point: I just got reconnected with my 25 year-old son this year, after no contact at all for 12 years. Bad divorce, malevalent ex-wife that kept him away from me and pretty much poisoned him against me; long story, but he finally figured out what she'd been doing, but by then neither of us were even in the same states; didn't know how to find him, and I tried. If I'd died LAST year, I never would have known what happened to him. And I'd have missed a lot. He managed to grow into a really good and responsible man, has a great wife (married 5 years!), and we've reconnected really well. It's been worth the troubles this year just for that. :)

Hope it turns out to be something less than the worst case conjectures Tim, but hang in there regardless. "The best is yet to come" may be BS, but there are still good things out there to be savored.

Thanks for the good thoughts, G.T. ......deep down we all know this to be true ...we just get caught up in the drama ....and frustration ....both of our own creation. Sometimes it's hard to sit on the mountain and just observe.

Yeah, it is, expecially if you've been active all your life. My dad (now 81) is continually frustrated by what he can't do anymore. But he's still enjoying what he CAN do, thankfully. With cancer all through my hips, shoulders, and all up my spine I'm restricted from ANY heaving lifting/exertion. "Walking" is my only approved exercise. I cracked a rib last year just leaning over a chair arm to pick up something I'd dropped, before I got diagnosed. (shrug) Couch potato/mouse potato is still fun.

Hey Roger, I hope all is ok with you both today :)

@G.T ~ really glad to hear that things with you and son are still going well, that has to be good medicine for you, over the chemo ills.

@Tim ~ medicine moves in mysterious ways sometimes and just need the right Doc or Scan to highlight the cause, so hang in their and put two fingers up the disease, but hope they get the the bottom of it for you.

Thanks Halo .....sometimes we need a little perspective ....spent last night with a close friend who has pulinary fibrosis, so that his wife (both in their mid 70's) could get a full nights sleep. My friend John was hallucinating all night long, which meant I didn't sleep either, and so today I can barely walk. But my pain and discomfort is no where near the pain and anguish they are going through.
I need to get my juicer out and start on that lemonade.
