I discovered that "BackWeb", "Macromedia", and "DesktopMessenger", seriously slow down my Windows 98se, especially Macromedia software.
Those three nasties come with hardware drivers, and various downloads.
I've been working hard to eliminate them from this PC, but somehow they are partially back after a couple restarts. I've done extensive search and destroys with find and regedit, and the next day they're back.

It seems those three bugger softwares are just state of the art trojan packages. All they do is damage a W98 OS, and seriously slow down the PC.
I found that without them in the PC, Mozilla Browser loads to the desktop in three seconds.
With them in the operating system, Mozilla loads in ten to twenty seconds, depending on the size and type of infection and infestation, so you can see that it really does make a big difference.

Is there any custom manual cleanup solution, or software solution, that can be employed, to block target entries from attaching themselves to the registry?
Is there a software that requires a user's password for softwares to add keys to the W98 registry?

How can I permanently remove those three nasties?

Are there any other similar nasties I should know about?

For registry cleanups and maintainance, I'm running: Spybot, Norton AVS, RegMech, CCleaner, Easy Cleaner, Eraser, and Power Defrag.. plus biweekly manual search and destroy efforts with Regedit and Find. What else can I do to keep this machine running at peak?

RAM is maxed out. I keep my all personal files and clutter on floppies. I'm running through a router. I don't have the machine configed for an email account. Daily, I delete Mozilla's cache and cookies.

Moved to software forum as those three are not classified as malware, while they maybe pests to you, they are installed by products you have installed.

If you have Logitech products? , backweb and Desktop Messenger come as part of those drivers and software.
