So my BF had a 300 and something Gig EBook external Harddrive and it's broken.

A drunk friend got angry and ended up throwing it on the floor shattering the casing. We have the actual hard drive itself, it appears to be fine but of course we don't know 100% what's going on as this is out of both of our leagues. If we took it somewhere is it possible to get the information on it? :cry

He has the wiring and hooked it up like he was sure it hooked up and said that it made a funny noise. Please, this thing had 300gigs of info on it that was not backed up because this thing was our main storage. Any and all help is appreciated. :)

I'm sorry to repost. I was incorrect about the harddrive, it's a my book western digital external harddrive. the model is WD3200AAKS-OOSBA0

So you hooked it up and it sounds like it responded to power but with a funny noise. Did you try to access the data stored on it? If so, what happened? If not, try it and see if you can. If so, you can recover and save it before the HD dies, as it sounds like it might if noise is being heard from the drive.

in the device manager it shows up and in properties says its working properly but in volumes it says unreadable. I can't access the info on it at all, it doesn't show up in my computer. :cry

We're going to try that. I have to wait until he gets a new hard drive, apparently he gave the old one to a friend so we don't have anything yet to put the info on. I thought we still had it, but thanks, we will definitely try that! If it doesn't work we'll just have to deal. Thanks so much for your time.
