Hey all, hopefully this will be a easy problem to solve. I got infected with the new vairant of coolwebsearch, always redirects, loads iteself on start up, cws, adaware, and spybot says it's deleted, inturn it's not, until there is a fix, or unless there is one i dont know about i suppose i can live with it. However, it changed my settings some how, when viewing my documents or image/ jpeg's on my hard drive, when i select thumbnail view, it does not work, or when i choose thumbnail from up in the options above it does not work. It got changed somehow, how can i change it back, it gets very frustrating to open every single file in image preview, just to see what is since i deal with a lot of digital photos. Thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks for replying, I wasn't aware there was an update to the last. The last version gave me a Runtime error, which shut down Explorer, ( only after recieving this problem ) and when I just downloaded the new updated version, it gives me a CWShredder has caused an error in CWShredder.exe. I tried to uninstall and reinstall from different sites and I recieve the same error. Any idea's?

Also, when I ran the old CWS, it always says it deleted Bootconf. but it always reloaded on start up..

Oh, have any idea about the thumbnail problem as well lol?

Thank you for your help, Lolli

    lolli,

See if you have this file:

Click Start > Search > Files and Folders, type "msinfo.exe", the file will commonly be found in the folder of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO

Also, what operating system and updates?

Heya, I searched for the file and found nothing. I am running Win Me, and IE 6 with service pack 1. Oh, it might help to mention that i recently bought and installed McAffee AntiAdware, and also installed a free pop up blocker, neither worked to find the file or to stop the pop ups. This new one is a killer pain in the arse with a capital "A"...

Thanks for helping, if there is anything else i can let you know just ask.

    Search and delete 'BOOTCONF.EXE'.

Remove the Bootconf.exe entry from the Registry.

Click on Start> Run, then type REGEDIT and click OK . The registry editor will open.
In the left pane, locate and expand the following Registry Key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ MICROSOFT \ WINDOWS \ CURRENT VERSION \ RUN

In the right pane, right click the key bootconf.exe and select Delete.

Try and install cws shredder v2.12 now.
