Thunderbird 3.1.4-classic view

I just updated both TB [to 3.1.4] and firefox [to 3.6.10]. The view in TB has drastically changed from the classic view we had in previous versions [like 2.*], I am now finding that TB keeps hanging up and freezing.

Is there any way or any extension to return to the classic view without having to return to
TB 2.* [I understand there is no more supposed for TB 2.* and older].

Thanks for your help. I want to try to get TB back the way it should be before I do the malware instructions to clean my laptop and hopefully get it to operated faster.
