Can someone explain to me what the Thunderbird address book option - 'Always prefer display name over message header' does?

    With examples?

    Thanks.

I think that this refers to when the contact sends you an email.

If they send you an email, TBird labels it as being from whatever's stated in the email header From line. If you check it, it'll display whatever you specify in the Display name category in TBird contacts.
