Thunderbird freezes up

I have TB 2.0, FF 2.0.0.5, XP Pro SP2 on Emachine T-5212. TWC RoadRunner ISP & email.

Recently, When I am downloading a lot of messages, TB freeezes up and stops functioning. The only way to get it to start to work again is to restart my computer. Have been unable to figure out a link to any specific one/type of message. It was getting so bad, I was using webmail more than TB. TB says today downloading 15 of 67 messages when it freezes up. I have gone online and deleted messages 12-17 counting from new to old and also in reverse from old to new in an effort to get rid of any specific email TB might be hanging up on -- doesn't help. Any suggestions?

 

Again, I reinstalled TB 2.0 and wonder of wonders, this time it worked. Hope it lasts.So guess my problem is temporarily solved.
