I've been thinking of going to a 19 inch. Would there be an advantage of Wide Screen over Standard? In relation to Response Times, faster being better. What would the minium that I would want for gaming or watching TV/DVD? Any other important things to lookout for (brightness, pitch, etc).

    Thanks

Well, for gaming a wide screen monitor would be awkward as most games are not designed for it.

For me, I like LCDs for apps like photoshop, but CRTs for gaming as you can't beat the refresh rate. I think the color is better on a CRT but LCDs are very sharp.

LCDs are also better on the eyes when staring at for long periods of time

CRTs can handle higher resolutions and refresh rates, which for gamers is quite important.
I have a 19" short tube CRT, and am more than happy with it..
Weighs a bloody ton though, and despite being short tubed, is still a big lump.
IMHO, there's no real winner - depends what you want it for.

Short Tube, I'll have to look into it. I need a monitor for my test bench, I'm tired of stealing my kids. I know that I can get one cheap second hand but I have two 17" CRT in the house and looking to upgrade anyway.

    Thanks for all the inputs.

    hi there,
i would strongly reccomend the Samsung 930 BF, it had a responce time of
4ms so it shouldnt effect any gaming or tv/dvd viewing, Atomic Magazine rated this monitor 9.5 out of 10, they compared the top monitors available on the market and said that this monitor had the most vibrant colours out of all the LCD's and it has a contrast of 700:1 and a brightness of 300 cd/m2 which is awesome!
here is a link for this monitor http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCD_Digital/LS19HADKBEXAA.asp
hope this help you a little
    Nathan.
