Time sync in Windows 7

I have a consistent time sync issue: my Windows clock is consistently fast by about 2 minutes every week or so. Someone here at MG recommended Karen's Time Sync. I have it configured to sync the clock every 12 hours, but it doesn't. It's also set to sync the clock when Windows starts, but I tend to leave the PC on for 3-4 days at a time (sometimes over a week), so that isn't much help. So, I need a way to sync the clock every 6-12 hours. I looked through the System32 folder for an 'obvious' file that Windows uses to sync the time, but couldn't find anything the screamed 'time sync'. The thought was that I would add it to the Task Scheduler. So now my next thought is to add Karen's Time Sync to the Task Scheduler, but it looks like Windows UAC will prevent it from running by itself, plus it would simply sync the clock 'invisibly', Karen's Time Sync will open a dialog window instead of simply syncing up 'behind the scenes' in the background (but I haven't tried using Karen's with the Task Scheduler just yet). The point of this lengthy and undoubtedly boring thread is this: I need something to sync the Windows clock regularly, without any user interaction, and it must run on a schedule of at least twice a day (preferably every 6 or 8 hours).

Any input, thoughts, suggestions, or comments will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

(BTW- someone previously told me "you have a bad motherboard" but this is untrue; I did not have a time issue when I was running WinXP Pro on this same board with the same CPU, RAM, video card, hard drives, etc. The only thing different is Windows 7 X64 Home Premium)

    Hi dlb

Have you tried to set the time server to a different one in Win7 opposed to time.windows.com? pick a nist time server.

or a bit of regediting if your willing could help to change the interval of the sync time?

    Open REGEDIT and navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient

then right click SpecialPollInterval and choose Modify then click Decimal see my screeny below

    Then rough estimates to times are in decimal 1800 = 30 minutes, 3600 = 1 hour, 7200 = 2 hours, 14400 = 4 hours, 28800 = 8 hours, 43200 = 12 hours, 86400 = 24 hours

The manually update the internet time.

I don't remember 100%, but I'm sure I've tried different time servers. I'm trying to avoid having to sync the time manually, the only option offered by Windows is to update every 7 days, but it looks like your reg 'hack' above will change that 7 days to my choice of interval, but then you added ". . . manually update the internet time" and that threw me off a little. So- I'm thinking that I can make the reg edit, and set it to every 8 hours, then once I sync the time manually using the built-in "Internet Time" option, it will kick in the automatic syncing every 8 hours, right?

    (BTW- thanks!!!!! :dood )

    Hi dlb

The manual update bit was to just sync the clock to current time and from then on it shoukd be to whatever regedit you have made to the schedule increments you want, sorry i tend to always try to get a default in especially if you change time servers to make sure its working.
