Time zone for MG?

I've just reloaded an old favourite (Planet Clock) and set up 5 clocks. I notice that MG time is GMT -5. I don't think I've ever noticed where MG is based. What state and city?

Cairns is GMT +10 so there is a 15 hour time difference between MG and me.
17 hours difference between Cairns and California.

That explains why most MG members are still at work, when I am on MG. Bazza

 

Don't forget US Daylight Savings Time currently makes EDT = GMT - 4 hours.

 

I'm not sure where the site is physically hosted, but Tim, Jim, Kodo, and the some of the other core group are in/around Syracuse New York.

The servers firewall wont let me ping it,I had checked my latency to the server before somehow,was hovering around 200ms,I'm guessing around central america or slightly west

And here I was thinking MG lived in its own space and time continuum!

 

So the server time isn't set to the time where the server is. Hey, it works for me, since I live in the Eastern time zone as well. It just struck me funny.

Doesn't one of the options in the User CP let you set the time to your local time ? I have mine set to UK time.

 

Yup it does, but I think Bazza is trying to set up a software clock that is independent of the MG website

Good advice, especially considering all the OP wanted to know is what time he needed to be on his computer in order to be online the same time as some other members in the US.

 

Thanks Rikky. I was confused as to why the GMT-5 time did not appear to clock up
() with the MG thread clock.

To all respondents. I DO have my PC setup to local time (GMT-10, no daylight saving).
The reason for the query in the first place was to set my 5 world clocks to the right time in their locales but MG time had me baffled.

Its not a bad idea actually, I often find myself trying to work out what time it is for other people, I normally just go to google and type in time in 'somecountry' though
