Tired of restarting "Wireless Zero Configuration" for Wifi.

Every time I restart my Laptop (win XP), I have to restart the "wireless Zero Configuration" (WZC) which "provides automatic configuration for the 802.11 adapters" .

I never had to mess around with WZC settings until recently when I had a problem connecting to a relatives network.

Ever since then I get an error where my list of networks should be saying "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection". And then, as noted above, I have to constantly reset WZC.

I actually uploaded a video of everything I have to go through several times a day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzjAeDsStHM

Go back to services, right click on WZC and select Properties.
Note Start up type. If it is Manual, click arrow and select Automatic.
If you installed another connection application at the relatives' location, delete that software with Add/Remove Programs. Having 2 apps can cause conflicts.

Thank you for your response lbmest, I'm new around here.

It is set to automatic (I double checked). It does this by default; I usually double check to make sure that is is configured for 'automatic'.

I did install the "Linsys EasyLink Advisor" software shortly before I left on vacation; Everything was working fine with the linksys software at my apartment for a couple weeks; i.e. no conflicts for a couple weeks.

However, I did wonder if this could be the problem, so I did msconfig/startup unchecked the linksys software for startup. There is still a problem. Next I may try uninstalling the linksys software; but I hesitate to do this because I am going to be setting up a home network within a couple weeks and the software seems pretty intuitive for this. I will make sure I can find the software online though first.

I'd say the Linksys software is causing the problem.
Either use it and disable WZC or uninstall the software. Use CCleaner to clean up any remnants if you do uninstall.
Also, it would be better to use CCleaner's start up manager or Startup CPL than msconfig for controlling start up items.
Use msconfig as a diagnostic tool only.

A good site for networking information is ezlan if you decide to uninstall the Linksys software. (One of the network gurus site here at MGs, cat5e.)
