tired old hard drive

I was wondering how I can go about completely erasing my hard drive, which is loaded with worms and viruses, two halves of a partition both running the same os, without having to make a back up of my hard drive (don't need anything on it that I can't just get back) or without requiring a system recovery disk.

 

no that is what I tried the first time when the worm on it wouldn't let me instal any type of new virus scanner, or any new program at all. So I bought an xp disk, brought it home, tried to reformat the disk and the program told me that there was a vital piece of windows missing and that I can't reformat. Then I tried to manually format the disk by going to my computer and right clicking on the disk. It told me the same thing.

 

just format your computer! I do that for every problem in my computer! Fixes all my problems!

 

well I wish I could have. it was an alcan (maybe) worm. there was a site where you can look up how to get rid of tings like that and there was one for it. download this and that and this then start in safe mode and run these things, so I did. Half way through one of the programs the computer just shut down, when I restarted it, none of my programs were workable, hence the double partition. Now I can't start up that half of my disk.
