To all the Elite fans out there...

Hi all.
Just thgought I'd give a heads-up on a game that has taken many hours out of my life over the past week. Oolite.
Basically a port of the original classic Elite with a few bells and whistles, originally for Mac, and now re-ported (is that a word?) for Windows and Linux.

Cheers mate give that a look I think. Elite 1 never did it for me even back on the 8bit's in the 1980's but Frontier / First Encounter was amazing. The way you could blast off out of the atmosphere into space, and had to 'land' on a planet by starting to slow down 100000 miles away was class.

Gonna give this a look though.

ps. Part of the trouble with elite was the tribbles. You know what I mean?

 

It's worth a go. It's kind of an Elite 1.5, as you do get the option of buying new ships, and taking passengers/missions.
The tribbles make a cameo as the trumbles, sadly
Shame you can't land on planets, though.
My personal favourite thing about Frontier was the navigational system, one large galaxy, with multiple planets in each system. Pure class!
Shame Elite 4 looks very unlikely to materialise.
