Hi,does sp2 turn off its own firewall and pop up blocker if it detects your system already has a firewall and pop up blocker?
We got prompted today to download sp2 and we are hesitant because of possible conflicts between firewalls and pop up blockers.
    THANKS MUCH

I know there's a lot of threads about SP2 - honestly, I've tried to read them all too.

Can anyone answer just this ONE Question because I'm wondering too?

OK - not REALLY a second question:
Question 1b: don't you have to disable (or it disables) your present firewall for this download which may take awhile -- that would be dangerous....

    The answer is no.

They are on by default, and stay on by default.

    Hi guys,

I'm probably misunderstanding your question, but why don't you just turn it off yourself if you don't want to use it.

Is it not possible to turn off your firewall, install SP2 and then turn off Windows firewall, and then turn yours back on - oooh my head hurts now :)
If you're really paranoid, can't you disconnect from the net during install (not to be confused w/ download) and do the above procedure?

As for pegg's 1b, I don't know. I'm considering waiting for the CD. My SP1 is all up to date and I'm a fairly safe surfer.

No,if you download sp2---keep your present firewall enabled. Once sp2 is completely installed--turn off sp2`s firewall so the two do not conflict.
I am going to wait and order sp2 on disc so i don`t have to deal with the big download in the first place. It installs real quick from a disc.

    Re: Pegg

If you have Broadband and get the full SP2 install then it installs even quicker from your HD ;)

Thanks for the link :) ...I probably will turn it off -- I was wondering about when I needed to turn off my present one (if at all)
    I have dial-up

Have they said when this will be out on a DISC?

Normally a good few months after release for them to get it out on CD. They have to press it, sort shipping etc.

There was NO sarcasm intended in my response to pompste/pegg’s posts.

If you had read those posts carefully, you would have seen that I was attempting to address the concern about conflicting firewalls. Yes, my answer was a bit simplistic, but not all of us are computer geniuses. Plus, the question led me to believe that this solution might not be possible; that’s why I thought I was misunderstanding the question. The bit about my head hurting was me poking fun at MYSELF and my inability to come up with a less awkward sounding answer.

I do not believe in offering sarcasm to anybody who is asking for help in a support forum. I’m sorry you took it that way.

I've installed and uninstalled SP2. I don't like the Security Center it forces on you, nor do I like the firewall it turns on. Despite those things, I left it installed. The final straw came yesterday when I couldn't get DVD X Copy to run. Uninstalling SP2 immediately remedied the problem. I can now use DVD X Copy without problems.

That was a very nice answer...but I never took it wrong (since you were addressing me) and I know what it is to feel exactly like that :)

As for what this thread is about, I plan on doing what pompste said:
Although I have 5 pages printed out on the Windows Firewall that I haven't read yet...so I may change my mind. "oooh my head hurts now" ;) SERIOUSLY!
