I apologise for posting what seems to be a simple question, but I can't find a sensible answer (which I can understand, and is simple - such as (if it's not possible) 'This is not possible'). I am trying to get to grips with W10 because it seems I must

In the course of my browsing I often come across a picture that I wish to feed into another application.
In W7 for some things I simply R-click on the picture and select 'copy'. This seems to store the URL or address of the picture.
Now I can paste the picture into another application by R-clicking and selecting 'paste'.
I find this a lot less effort than saving the picture and uploading it to the application, even if the application supports that.
When I try this in W10 simply the result is 'copy' doresn't work, other options result in copying the whole webpage.
I have tried to find out how to do this in W10 but I can not find out.
    Is it actually possible ?

Copy and paste works exactly the same in 10 as it does in 7. Maybe the pic you are trying to copy is copy protected? Give us a link if you want us to test it.

To obtain a test image I searched for 'Taj Mahal' using duckduckgo on both W7 and W10
having obtained my test image I R-clicked on it and selected 'copy' from the drop down menu on both o/s, in IE11 and edge respectively.
Then I ctrl-v'd (or R-clicked>paste) the 'copied' image into the address space on both, and searched for image in google>image . In w7 the image appeared in the IE11 browser window and in google image search (with the list of finds) but in edge in W10 nothing as pasted so nothing happened (google image search opened as you'd expect).
I expect that if I pasted the image saved in notebook or similar nothing would happen in W10 whereas in W7 the image address would be pasted.
In Paint, in W7 and W10 I L-clicked the paste icon, and there it was.
Not much use if I wanted to find out what the image was of using google image search - and the direct paste of the URL didn't work in W10 either.
Copy link does copy the taj mahal ok, but when it comes to selecting an (embedded ?) image sent in an email it copies all the images and text
When I try to copy an image from f/b where the only option is 'copy link', different things happen, I get an error from google image search and the picture is copied directly to browser but inside facebook, not just the image.
Sigh. I guess the only thing to do is the long way, and save the image and upload it again to where it's needed (application specific).
I bet when you try it Earthling it all works :)

On the other hand, selecting, copying and pasting text works ok in both o/s+browser combinations

Sorry but I have no idea what your problem actually is. For me Win 7 and Win 10 c&p are identical, so end of.

    Thanks Earthling
->plodr: what do you plan to when applications on W7 start not working ? (as XP)
I use the snipping tool but it's more work than copying a picture and pasting it although the for case you have exemplified (windows error messages) I agree it doesn't work and a convenient method is the snipping tool

I haven't found anything that doesn't work in XP, including the clipboard program and screen capture program currently in use on our Windows 7 computers.

I used the same screen capture programs on many different versions of Windows.

So I've been using for at least 20 years. I just checked and I'm using version 5.10

I feel your pain with a computer out of commission.
My Windows 2000 needs a power supply. Best Buy has one listed that I think will work but when I went to the store to order it, they told me I had to order online. I guess if it doesn't work, I'll be stuck with it. If I can't order and pay for it in the store, I probably won't be able to return it in the store.

You want a new one ? Returning stuff is a pain, esp if you have to pay return postage.
I have, with one exception, bought PSUs from ebay which I have thought were good value even taking into account that I might get a dud (or have some other minor defect - like the one in my failed XP unit is fractionally too big for the space allocated in one dimension, and another had had the protruding outline of the mains inlet in the wrong place so it didn't fit snugly. They both worked though)

Yes. The computer was built for me in 2004. It is a full tower. To test the power supply, I used one I had as a spare but it doesn't fit properly and is too low in wattage so it isn't a solution.
I don't want to buy used because in another year or two I might have the same problem when the used one fails.
