    Hey, Goldfish...
I wrote a program to show team graphs, a cgi program with perl...
    check it out...
    here is the link:

Mind you, the input is case sensitive, etc, the program is not "smart enough" to find a team unless the name is exacly as is on the team summary.txt thing at FAH.

You can input the team name as:
    MajorGeeks.com
    or the team number as:
    12072

and it will output the graph. It is a graph like a "physics man" would make, the scores as a function of time, none of this statistical extrapolation, etc.

    Hey, that's really cool!

I think the only way to make it "smarter" to search using team names would be to use some nifty RegEx's on a Database. But to be honest, that ain't much of a problem! I like those graphs, they're chunky but precise. You using GnuPlot to make them?

    Nice work, man :)

    Cool!
Yes. Its gnuplot. I tried to be fancy and run it on OpenBSD, but the graphs did not look as pretty. The fonts were not as nice. So, I just ran it on the linux. This is the first time I've ever ran apache, and I'm learning quite a bit. Even on this little site here you see some "interesting" things in the error log.

    Cheers Mate,

like people trying to pipe commands in...
my favorite so far is this:

    file does not exist: /var/www/level/16/exec/-///pwd

    :)

I can see that I'll learn some things just by googling this stuff. I don't think I'm very vulnerable because the program just takes input and searches for that string in a list.
Learning the proper admining of this apache thing is on the "to-do" list, though.

Haha, that's pretty lame, I have to say - and pointless too.

Webmin is a pretty good package for managing Apache, as long as you get the most recent version. You can manage all sorts of things with webmin, including Printer servers if you like :)

I'm much more Linuxy now - I've got ubuntu on my Laptop (works with internal WiFi, which no other distro seems to) and I've got two debian servers, both witht customised kernels.

I've been thinking about experimenting with Solaris for x86 and OpenBSD, but never really had the occasion to. I'm going to get some more hardware next monday so maybe I should set up a *BSD box.

As I said, I tried Open, I even bought a book about it:

I was impressed with the book (I'm a "dead trees" kind of guy, I like real books). I was also impressed with the online documentation.

Open is certainly not the best choice for a newby, but anyone who has messed with *nix is okay. I know that apache runs in a chroot environment (can easily be disabled). I like the idea of security. I may have another go at it.

I'm sure that if I moved all of the linux emulation into the chroot jail it would run. It can surely be done. Its just one of those things, you know, there is so much to do. I'm studying a book about C++ now, Stephen Prata's primer:

He is my favourite computer author. I have to learn about classes and objects. Its killing me not to know.

I had a rough go at it trying to do the cgi stuff (in PERL) without using the "classes" way. That should all end soon. I should soon understand that classes/objects (and templates) stuff. You know, OOP.

    Cheers
