I'm upgrading my PC to a new mobo+CPU

    OLD: MSI RS480(Skt939) + AMD64 3200+ (+ PCIe 6600GT)
    NEW: MSI K8 NEO4-F + AMD64 X2 4200+ (+PCIe 6600GT)

Is it recommended to re-install WinXP from scratch or could I just change over the new mobo/cpu and add drivers when prompted (I would like to avoid the hassle of re-installing all the various apps)

Dude... you dont need to reinstall windows xp... all you have to do is to install your new hardware and start xp. xp will detect all newly installed hardware then install a driver.....

Personally, I would prefer a clean installation of Windows under those circumstances.

    Correct--sometimes.

You will probably need to reinstall. Too many drivers ened to be re-enumerated. It probably wont even boot, due to different hard drive controllers.

Same chipset moves will often survive such a change, going from ATI to Nvidia--not likely.

If your going to do an upgrade you might as well take the time and reformat.
I feel you will have a more stable system.
And like Adrynalyne siad it might not even boot.

You could do a Repair, but you are better off formatting and starting again.

Thanks for the pointers. Think I just have to accept a day adding back all the apps.

    Cheers!
