Initially Posted as a reply to an old thread, understand now, I should post my own.
In just the past few days have started getting so many script errors I cant count. My computer is still functioning, I have ran my virus and maleware scans, fount a few lil t hings and took care of them. It happened after I was trying to sink an ipod to itunes and my computer wouldnt recognize it. I uninstalled itunes and I have even done a system restore and reinstalled IE8. It seems everytime I open a new page it happens.

I checked the internet tools and the appropriate options are checked or unchecked and I have researched everywhere to no avail. Someone help Im about to throw my computer out a window!

I get tons of different ones, including object expected, something about something being invisible or not found, I have tried everything in my mind, I need some assistance, its really getting crazy!

What kind of script errors? Can you give some examples, or a screenshot?

Is it on Internet Explorer? When visiting what sites?

Post what version of windows you are running.
Do the script errors appear only when you are browsing?

Do the script errors appear only when you are browsing?
    YES
About how long has this been going on?
    1 week or so
Have you tried a restore point before the error occurred?
    YES
If so, what was the outcome?
    Nothing

    Windows XP

The script errors are so many, Object expected, something about something being unreadable of invisible, sometimes I wont get any on several sites, then I'll get 4 or 5 and no matter how many times I click yes or no I end up having to close the page all together because it wont go away.

The sites it happens on are pretty random, when I came here last night I got one. Also got one on google.com.
    Yes its on IE8
I already tried system restore and reinstalling IE8 and updating etc

I did a disk defragment last night on my C drive. So far today I havent gotten any. But it seemed each time I do something, like clear internet cache or temp files, it stops for a while, but then it will start again later.

Open IE 8. Click Tools then Internet Options. Click on the Security tab. Sown near the bottom, click on Reset all zones to default level. Click ok before you close the Internet Options box.

    I already did that

    Try...
    1. In Internet Explorer, choose Internet Options from the Tools menu.
    2. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    3. On the Advanced tab, under Browsing, check Disable Script Debugging.
    4. Click OK.

I already did that, that's what I meant in the beginning by saying I went to the internet tools and disabled and enabled the appropriate functions that I have found associated with the problem. They were already set properly.

    Today I got these errors

    start.jewelmint.com

    error Expected identifier
    twttr is undefined
    unspecified error
    class doesn't support automation

    cafepress.com

    error 'console' is undefined

I found this when searching 'repeated script errors'

Web surfers all over the world have run into problems with their Internet Explorer browser. Some of these are errors are 401, 404, 408 and 503 pages to which you may be redirected. 52 runtime errors and 500 Internal errors are also common. These issues are typically caused by temporary internet files stored in your hidden folders. Denied access over Internet Explorer is also a result of confusing configuration issues.

but it was selling a registry editor. I know that is touchy!

It is also correct in one assumption, in my temp folders there are some files that will not delete and it seems the ones that do are coming back quickly.

IS there a chance I have some issues in temporary hidden folders and how do I eradicate them...

Users should not see script errors if script debugging is disabled; all they should be seeing is the little yellow exclamation point in the status bar, with a message like 'Errors on page', or 'Done'.

I do not know why you (and other users) are getting these script errors when script debugging is off...?

Anyway, sites that have so many script errors (even though you should not be actually seeing them) are badly designed, and in my opinion not worth visiting. Such sites may even be exploited.

    I know neither do I!
But I have seen like you said, several others say that they are getting them even with them turned off.

I get these on most sites. INCLUDING THIS ONE once when I first came.
Cafepress, spin.com, victoriasecret.com, bathandbodyworks.com... these are not unprofessional sites I'm getting these from. I think there is a new error in my system somewhere as this is a very new problem.

    IE
Getting them on sites I never did before... suddenly and repeatedly. Something has happened.

The most recent thigns I did, was try to sync my sons Ipod to itunes and my computer wouldnt recognize.

I tried to go in and take some un needed files from my control panel, one being 7-zip that I dont even remember downloading. BUT when I uninstalled it my IE explorer became completely unusable. meaning I would open IE and would get a white screen that would say done. SO I had to use my system restore and got it back up. I had uninstalled a few things, likes games we werent using... so it took the second attempt uninstalling 7-zip first (one thing at a time) that I found that it was the 7-zip that caused the problem. So I had to restore again, this time going back until It didnt show on my system (as it was prior to the date it showed install) It was after this that I started having these issues. Like maybe the uninstall process fouled something up, maybe in registry.

BTW after this I did go to microsoft and make sure I was reupdated as well as updating my microsoft security essentials and spyware progam as well as malewarebytes

just got this one at hottopic.com

    and its another different error

    trueproductcatagory is undefined

I closed the page and reopened and got a different one that says access denied, but if I click ok it seems to run fine. Its just that Im getting so many and sometimes they will not close no matter if I click yes or no and I have to completely close IE explorer

By the error message, your browser is still running scripts on web sites, even though you have turned this off.

Try a repair of IE 8.

when I check the properties of my computer
    I have windows XP Home
    Version 2002 SP3
My computer is an AMD Athelon 64 x2 Dual Core

The only IE8 install I find is for my 64bit is for a 2003 SP2
(Windows Server 2003 SP2 64-bit Edition or Windows XP Professional 64-bit Edition)

    Is this my problem?

Now I'm a bit confused: to the best of my knowledge, Windows XP Home was never issued as a 64-bit edition. So either you have Windows XP Home (32-bit), or you have Windows XP Professional (64-bit).

Can you check if you have a C:\Windows\syswow64 folder?

When I go to that last website you mentioned (hottopic.com) I get the yellow exclamation mark in the status bar with message "Done, but with errors on page." When I double-click on that, I get the pop-up with the script error, but it looks very different from yours.

Can you try a few things...
    1. Try running IE in safe mode [Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (no add-ons)]
    2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab: uncheck 'Display a notification about every script error'
    3. More options, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260/en-us
If 1. above solves the problem, then it is an IE add-on that is causing your script errors to be displayed.

I don't have that folder, I know my computer is a 64bit Dual core

    My XP is home version

Im including a screen cap of the statistics when viewing properties of my computer and I will run the check recomended.

In safe mode with networkign now.
When I was in admin, the 'ie with no add ons' didnt show in the system tools as an option.

I logged in on my acct and it did, so I checked as instructed and that option was already untoggled.

Going to run the reccomended program scan now

was going to edit last post but time expired.

I downloaded and ran spybot search and destroy, it was already on my computer, but needed updated.

I am running in safemode with networking and it said it could remove 100+ temp files and I said ok. It stated that 6 could not be removed. I noticed this the other day that there was a handful I couldnt rid of.

It is running hte check now.

This is what spybot search and destroy found and fixed

    Incredibar 1 entry hijackerC
    double click 1 entry browser
    media plex 3 entries browser

Did you try to run IE without add-ons? Do you also get script errors in that mode?

  28. rencourt

    rencourt Private E-2

while I was in safe mode, running the spybot, I only went to a couple pages. I didnt get any.
The thing you told me to untoggle was already untoggled.

While I was in safe mode it asked me to set up my IE8. So I changed my search box preference and told it not to run any add ons.

    So far so good.

Hot Topic is just a shopping site for a mall store. That isnt the only page I get them on. It was just an example.

Just got one on facebook that said invalid argument.

GAH when is this going to end?

  30. pwillener

    pwillener MajorGeek

If you don't get any script errors while running IE in safe mode, then that means that one of the add-ons is generating these.

Try to disable all add-ons, one by one, to see which one is causing it.

    how do I do that?

well I disabled a couple insignificant things and for some reason 4 versions of java where running. I went to Hot topic that gave me script errors constantly just to check it out, since others seemed to be hit and miss and I didnt even get it there!
    Thanks
fingers crossed it stays this way!

HI, thanks, but the control panel ad and remove doesnt show any more than one. It was only showing in my add ons in explorer, there must be some residuals, and the funny thing was, there was 3 of the same version enabled. I disabled all but the current version, it seems to be working fine. No more script errors. Thanks so much to everyone for your trouble shooting experience, I was about to go insane!
