Too hot?

I installed speedfan on a new PC and noticed that the

    GPU - 57c ? Too hot???
    Temp1 24c
    Temp2 32c
    Temp3 23c
    Core 11c

I have a AMD x2 5600 with stock cooler, with theraml past added in addition to the thermal paste that was on the cooler when I installed it. Not old paste new out of the box.

I have an 9800 GT as my vid card.

Just want to know if this is running to hot, and if so some good actions to take.

11 degrees for your CPU looks way too cool.

As for the GPU, anything under 70 is okay for under load.

I just looked at the core again and it's between 16c, and 17c. Is that good?

That's super low. I would expect a CPU to run at about 30 degrees C at idle.

EDIT: When you put the secondary thermal paset on, did you remove the old stuff?

:( That's very bad! Now you have WAY too much and you should never, as in never ever, re-use paste! See my post and canned text on Thermal Interface Material (TIM) to see how to do it correctly.

I agree that your GPU temp looks good.
Note that today's GPUs have 100s of millions MORE transistors on their dies than the latest CPUs! They consume more power, and therefore generate more heat. So they are designed to handle more heat, with many running safely well into the 80-90°C range and beyond with no problems. The popular nVidia 9800GT, for example, is rated up to 105°C!!! That's 221°F - more than enough to boil water. But, while the GPU may be rated to 105°C, stability and performance often begins to suffer before then - perhaps because of the surrounding components, also running hot. I look to keep GPUs under 90°C.

I remind folks who have, or are considering a newer big-horsepower graphics card to make sure their case cooling can remove that heat (also, to ensure their PSU can handle the extra load too).

17°C = 62.6°F Unless you are using an active, refrigerated form of alternative cooling (that is, something other than fans), it is impossible for the CPU temperature to be cooler than the ambient (room) temperature, especially when sitting inside a warm case. I assume the room the computer is in is warmer than 62.6°F. So it would appear your monitoring program is inaccurate, or the sensor is bad.

That's great info, thank you. I will make sure I ask before I do from now on :)

Upon further research using CPUID Hardware Montior, my CPU is running 35-39C while stressed doing a defragment.

You sure about that? How much CPU does defragment use? That sounds more like an idle temp to me. I have a pair of 9800GT's OC'd exactly the same and running under full load, one shows 65C and the other shows 80C so you can see there's a wide range even from card to card although these two were not bought at the same time. The cooler one is called an Akimbo but both are dual slot and exact same specs, go figure eh?

Yeah, defragging is just copy and write, copy and write. Not very demanding. But those are good idle temps.

It would be interesting to see what the temps would be if you swapped cards in their slots.

Yeah the GPU is running at 59c, and CPU 35-39c while running Smart Defrag.
