I have over 45 processes running according to my task manager. That seems like too many. So I started checking them and removing the unecessary ones, according to 'Paul collin's startupApplications List'. When I restart though the ones I've done an 'End Task' on come right back? Especially this 'svchost', which shows up 4-5 times. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Are 45 processes OK?

    My computer just seems slow...Advice???

    HI!
I have 7 instances of svchost running on XP SP2. This is not a service you should terminate. Having multiple instances is not uncommon at all.

Hi Can you take a screenshot of your full Task Manager Processes list and attach it here?

Also as many running processes are due to applications that dont really need to startup at boot time as they are things like MSN messenger or similar, Driver Updaters for the likes of printers, Software updaters* ( you can get a good idea if you haev too many running applications by looking at the amount of icons in your System Tray ).

To get an idea of what applications are starting at boot, goto Start > Run and type msconfig and hit enter, goto the Startup Tab and take a screenshot of that list and attach it also.

Then we may then be able to assist you in stopping some un-needed ones :)

*never stop or disable security softwares updaters

the files (3 config and 2 task manager) are too big to attach.? They are all over 600 kb. Is there a better way to send them ? Is there a way to reduce the file size of the snapshot ?
