All junk and useless. They're selling you snake oil. These things can be detrimental to your system and actually slow it down because some things have to rebuilt. Just ask people who know like MS MVP's.

My policy with registry cleaning, is I note what is being cleaned, back it up, then purge it line by line manually.

Some registry cleaners can cause issues.

For instance, you have a device you use rarely, and have certain settings in place saved in the registry. You run a registry cleaner, it could wipe those settings.

But, if you were to go line by line, then you could skip the "fixes" and continue on. Yes, my method is a PITA, but it works.

CCleaner is the only free software I use out of the many that were posted by the OP.

I've tried a few of the posted ones some years ago and did find them junk. I stay away from them.

  8. Goldenskull

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

Yes but not all are junk Iobit is good free to use Plus CCleaner.

Wise care is semi out dated.

Speed up my pc cost too much well have not tried it so i can not say much about it but to me it looks like it is too much bloat ware they want 60$ for that program. All most any and i say all most any All in one tools that cost over 60$ is pretty much bloat ware.

iolo system mechanic Please for the love of god do not use it this will mess up your system.

Glary Utilities never even heard of it.So i can not say much about i.

I remember vividly purchasing a speed up software probably more than 8 years ago for $30. Don't remember the name anymore but it was JUNK, speed didn't improve anything at all. I threw that disk (which was recommended by a sales person in the store) in the garbage. Lesson learned. ;)

I purchased iolo system mechanic from walmart and i must say they suck. They wanted the program at first 60$ for 3 to 6 month use.

But then i found a bug for it when i hit the F 12 key lol :-D this is funny it made it free for a while till they fixed it sorta:-D.

I think my wife's 7 year old Vista HP is a good example of just how unnecessary these system clean up/tune up programs are. She just lets Vista, the Windows firewall and MSE do their job, and never runs any of these programs at all. Over the years her Vista has been completely stable, and runs as well now as it did when new - in fact probably better as Vista has itself been improved in the meanwhile. As captcha has said these programs are utterly useless, and as a forum helper over many years it has been my personal experience that the majority of ppl who do have problems that cannot be replicated have in fact been using some form of utility that claims to clean up or speed up Windows in some way.

On my own Thinkpad Win 7 Pro I was actually tempted to install Iobit ASC 6 and run System Optimization. The system crashed soon after and I had to use an Acronis image to recover. It's now uninstalled.

I realise that none of this will convince any of those who believe that others know more about Windows than does Microsoft itself and can only hope that when they hit problems that they too have secured the means to recover.

Do you remember how you had the System Optimization setup. If you had it set wrong yes it could lead to crash's.I test and help with ASC for iobit. Was it for top performance setting. If so the only time you should use that is when you are into heavy gaming like me.Normal users should only use the work or server or daily option.

As a new user of ASC I didn't try to adjust anything - all settings were left on default. It's interesting that you help test ASC - you must really believe that it's useful. Convince me ;)

Well the only part i do not really understand is the Computer Optimization part there is really not much info on it.To what it is Optimizing.

Most of the stuff i understand what it does.

I do put my system at risk to make sure it runs fine for a lot of people. And i am not the only tester in many ways it is use full for the people that do not know much the newer OS software and on how to clean and maintain things this is a good option for these kind people. You do not have to use it but it's good to have just in case you get in a bind.

ASC is not meant to be used every day may be once a month or so.

I use it every day to test to see if it working properly.

Judging from the interface, ASC is kinda cool.

But it lacks some efficiency. I tested it and sometimes the tool just froze.:cry

CCleaner is a nice choice and recommended for basic users.
Wise Care 365 has another unique style. Once experienced the fast speed, I don't have any reason to change.:duck

Really good {great} optimization program, I've loved it since I found it in free software on C|Net and downloaded it into my old HP Pavilion with Windows XP, it needed help ... it's a very old PC, I've changed the motherboard once, to upgrade it to a pentium 4 processor, it had pentium 2, and it still has a working floppy disk drive. :angel
Thanks to this software's help, that PC is now tripped out like a race car! :cool
It found all the excess pieces of accumulated lost script file fragments for the past 15 years, that no other optimization program could find, let alone find and remove. Wise Cleaner found and removed them all!! :cloud9 Thank you!! :heart

Plus, it helped me make it sync all my mobiles to that PC: 1. my mobiles are a hybrid Dell laptop, which has a PC in it's hard drive base and a 2. Mac tablet screen [like an ipad,]in the desktop, with mountain lion operating system and google browser} 3. my x-box 360, 4. a 7" kindle fire, first generation android with silk browser. It is set to automatic page viewing, for pages with no mobile version all scripts are on and 5. my DSi-XL which I sometimes surf the web on it, too. (Wow, forum mods, your geek forum needs a smiley for a supergeek! LOL ) roflmao

It helps remove all those script fragments, with it's junk file removal tool [ which including spyware and malware cookies], since we all app our mobiles to death. lol.
The advertising in those apps is the absolute worst for leaving tracking cookies in everyone's browser, and all those tracking cookies, for all platforms, do not like this software.
WTG!!! Wise Cleaner!!! :highfive :clap :heart :dood

P.S. I read a post about tracking being bad at Facebook .... it isn't just on FB, everyone, everywhere are tracking you, that's what site cookies are for, along with separate cookies for members!!! lol

Just use the 'no tracking settings' in your computer or device browser. You'll still see ads, but they won't be allowed to access the cookies in your browser, from the sites you visit most, so the ads will be random. :p
