I have a Japanese laptop. It had and Jap OS and I installed the english Xp on it. Now my ethernet and sounds dont work.

I tried looking for the driver but can't find anything that works. i tried to install on that I found on a forum but i still can't use the net.

The Model name is Satellite A80 Series
    Model No : PSAA80N-06002L

If Anyone can help me please do. Or let me know what other info you might need to help me get the net and sound to work on my laptop.

    Thanks..:major

Best bet would be to attach an Everest report, then we should have something a little better to work with.
I didn't pull anything up at Toshiba under that part number and if we have your Everest report, we should be able to identify your ethernet and audio properly and find the drivers.

Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

I don't know if you tried 'em and they didn't work, or what, but I provided links to all the drivers you need so running Everest and posting the report would only be needed if the drivers from the above links didn't work. Just trying to save you some time ;)

The drivers at the Toshiba link should work. Most of the devices are Intel-based except for the wifi (drivers at www.atheros.cz) and the LAN (by Marvell, drivers at the Toshiba link) and the audio (Realtek, also at the Toshiba link). There should be no mystery to installing them. Just download the appropriate drivers and install them, and install the chipset drivers first (also available at the Toshiba link). I compared the Everest report with the drivers at the Toshiba link I posted above, and they match up, so they should work fine. The only difference was the wifi, but the Everest report didn't provide the Atheros number (they usually look like 5002G for example) and there's maybe 15 or 20 to choose from. You can also download an Atheros driver from Toshiba at this link. Scroll down and it will be listed at the bottom....
    Good luck!

UPDATE: the Atheros chip number is AR5212 or AR5213....

Hay- Do you have the same problem? Where you able to get it to work???

OK- this may be happening because you're trying to log in to a WEP/WPA password protected wireless network. When you right click on the wifi symbol by the clock, select 'View wireless networks'. Then from the list that opens, select your router/network and click the 'Connect' button. It should either pop up a window asking for the WEP/WPA key (and you'll enter the appropriate information), or it should say 'Acquiring address....' then it will say 'Connected'. If you're still having problems, go to Control Panel > Network Connections and right click the wireless connection and select 'properties'. Then click the Wireless Networks tab, select your network from the box, and click Advanced. Then go through the various security settings and set them to the right settings for your situation. If you're unsure of what the right settings are, just go thru each setting, one at a time (keep track of the changes you make), save the settings, close the window, and try to connect to the web. If it doesn't connect, go back and try a new setting. You can also use a straightened out paper clip to hold in the reset button on the back/bottom of your router. Hold it in for 20-30 seconds, then restart the PC, and try to connect again. If you do this, any other PCs that connect via wifi will need to be re-configured because using the reset button should wipe out the WEP/WPA password and should return the router to factory out-of-the-box settings. So any PCs connecting wirelessly will need to be set up to use the default settings. For more help with this stuff, visit the router makers web site, read the router manual, or post in the Major Geeks Networking Forum.
Let us know how it goes.

As I suggested much earlier, you should have uninstalled any old drivers that you were going to reload a LONG time ago. However- if you're having no driver issues, the device manager has no questions marks ? or exclamation points ! or red X's, and all your devices are working, then there is no need to start uninstalling things now; doing so might just create new problems.

I made a small error in my post above. To access the security settings I was referring to, go to Control Panel > Network Connections; right click the wireless connection and select properties; click the Wireless Networks tab (see screen shot below); then select the network you want to connect to, and click Properties (not Advanced like I said above, but you can go there just to see if it helps). The screen shots below show waht you should be looking at, and what settings you can mess with to see if any of the help. You should also click the Authentication tab, and look at the settings there to see if one of those helps....

On a side note, While surfing the net I seem to have downloaded wierd programs that when installed didnt do anything......

I forgot to install firewall and avg....but I did it finally......

I ran avg, it detected 38 viruses and healed 36, but now i cant acces my c drive by clicking my computer.....

    - I still have access to it if I go thru start, but not when I open the my computer icon on the desktop and click any of the drivers i get an error message

:Windows cannot find 'resycled\boot.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again..........

-The 'resycled\boot.com'. was one of the things the virus scan found and healed.......it was like C/resycled\boot.com something like that....

Another issue was that when I shutdown or restart, my laptop staying in the shutting down screen forever.......

i know because I left it on over night after I shut it down and in the morning it was still on the same screen.......

then i did it many times over to see if it was a one time thing...and it happens every time, no matter if I press shutdown or restart.......

So now when it goes to that screen I just hit to power button to turn it off and on.......

Thanks for the help in advanced.....

Not sure if this will help but after i got the internet to work and installed the drivers...I was looking for driver updates and downloaded programs thinking the would help but when I installed it it said "pornovids" the file name was something like driver updates, there were a few....but everytime I installed the install app had the name pornovids at the top of the install window.....

    Please help....noob down...noob down....

    JohnNitro

Here you go: direct link to your video driver

You have installed a virus, and it seems you have some fairly serious issues now. 3rd party programs are NEVER recommended for driver updates. Windows Update is better (though not really recommended either) and is guaranteed clean from malware. Drivers very rarely require updating after they have been installed. All the drivers in my system were installed from the motherboard CD back in March and I have no need to update them; everything is working. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Anyway, try a system restore to a date before the problems started. Hopefully that will help. Then read the Major Geeks Guide to Malware Removal and follow the steps exactly as they are described and do NOT skip anything. Then post in the Malware Removal Forum and possibly provide a link to this thread for reference.
    Good luck!

(remember: in post #3 above, I provided a link to the Toshiba site for all of your system drivers)

    Think it is malware??

I thought it might have been because its a japanese computer with an english OS, since that was the problem to begin with.......

And maybe the avg thought the directory to C drive was a virus and deleted it....

or you can be right it's malware either was I will do the steps and hopefully it will fix this issue... thanks for the help..
