Try hooking an external monitor up, if it is working then most likely there is a hot key that has been pushed. Look for a key in the f1 - f12 keys with a pic of a little screen on it. Push the fn key along with it and see if switches back to your laptop screen. Also look for a key to brighten the screen,(sometimes looks like a little sun), and push it to see if it somehow was set to all dark. You can also look in the bios settings for monitor settings and see if somehow it has been changed to use a separate monitor.

You can rule out the BIOS battery as the cause of a completely black screen. If the BIOS battery needed replacing you'd see a message on the screen like press F1 to enter setup or press F2 to continue. The screen would not be completely black.

There's a chance you have a very small hole on the face of your drive. Here a straightened end of a paper clip or a very small jewellers' screwdriver can be inserted to manually open the door. Do this with power off and watch the door. It will barely pop loose and you'll need to pull it gently out rest of the way.
