toshiba laptop won't hibernate or update windows

i have a toshiba l750d that won't hibernate, and windows won't install all of the updates. i just bought a new hdd (my 2yo killed the last one, and i did replace it with another toshiba hdd), and everything was fine when i first booted. this all started when i downloaded all of the programs i normally use. i've used every virus/malware scan i can think of, and even some i've never heard of. i did follow the instructions in the malware forum, and i also downloaded a slew of other programs recommended on your site. i ran everything i could normally and in safe mode, and no change. computer goes to sleep and wakes up like 3 seconds later, windows won't update (it gives me error code 0x80073712, which i did google and found some info on the microsoft support website, and that didn't help either), and i also have an eco utility that occasionally shuts itself off. i've also checked my power setting myself, and changed them, aaaaand nothing.

Did you go into Services to see if BITS and Automatic Updates are turned on ??

 

i have no idea what that is, and usually it does update automatically, or the icon pops up asking me to install updates. it's installed every one of them with no problem except one, which is where i keep getting the error code.

 

Do you know what update won't install ??

Try running this and then after the reboot go to Windows Update and try to install the update.

so, i ran that, and all the scans with it, and it's still not fixed...

and have you followed all the steps in them?

 

i did find both of those, and i followed what they said in them. i'm running the scan they have in the second link again. i was going to try a system restore, but the only restore points in there are the ones AFTER i started having problems, which is weird, because i did create a restore point when i finished installing windows, but it's not there.

 

System Restore Points do disappear after a while (they take up a lot of space on the hard drive).

Can you try to install kb2739159 manually from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739159

 

the last scan i ran finished, and found no errors. i did follow the link you replied with, and tried to install the update manually, and it said it had to validate my copy of windows. now it's saying that the validation code is not available with an error code 0x80072f07.
