My girlfriend's been having some troubles with her notebook's dvd-rom detecting newer dvds, and I think updating the drivers might help out a bit.

I've looked all over and can't find anything. Even driverguide.com didn't have what I'm looking for, so I'm thinking that the savvy folks here at MG might be able to assist in my quest.

I'm looking for drivers for the Toshiba SD-R2412 DVD/CDRW combo that are as recent as possible, and at least date after July 1st 2001.

Any help would be highly appreciated because I like to watch dvds on her laptop while I'm falling asleep. :)

    P.S. This is Gottheit. ;)

What OS are you running? For 2K&XP you should not need any drivers. Perhaps you problem is really with the software you are using to play back DVDs.

    She's running XP home.

Trust me, I've tried so many different programs that it can't possible be what she's using for playback.

I searched high and low the night that I posted this thread, and I found that many people also had the same troubles with the very same drive. The problem was, I couldn't find a solution regardless of how many complaints I saw. So, as a second-to-last resort, I figured it could be a driver issue and posted on here for some help. The last resort is telling her to just take her laptop back to best buy and requesting a new drive, as it's still under warranty. This is a last resort because she, like myself, cannot stand to be without her computer. It also affects me, too, because she gets cranky and then wants to use MY computer. That's a big no no. ;)

Perhaps she doesn't need drivers, but I just figured it would be a possibility, and it's something we've yet to pursue. Once again, any help would be appreciated.

I recently bought a toshiba with the same CDRW/dVD drive
DVD-ROM SD-R2412 - it was working just fine - when suddenly couple of weeks back it started rather stopped recognizing audio cds then data cds. it was able to play a dvd fine - i took it to a 'authorized' service provider who replaced it after a dozen days - and still the darn thing does not work. Looks like this drive is a proven pain. Let me know if you guys find any solutions...
