    Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop that is majorly bogged down with junk and in deperate need of some reformatting. The problem is that I lost the system restore cd that the computer came with. I do have a copy of Windows XP SP2, that I assume i can just drop in and reinstall the OS with, however, will that keep the drivers? If not, will XP recognise the hardware and have drivers for them?
Everything in the macine is stock, except for the RAM and hard drive, which were replaced a few months after SP2 was released, if my memory serves me.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Toshiba's website will have the drivers for your PC, just goto their support site and enter your models version and then download any drivers they have, burn to CD for later use.

XP does have a vast amount of drivers as standard, but any missing ones you should get from the support site.

but I would make sure before you re-install that they have all the main drivers you will need for XP.

Ok, so you think that XP will have the essentials, like the motherboard, graphics controller, keyboard, mouse, cd drive, etc. and then anything else i can get from the site? I want to make pretty certain before I go ahead and do it and then find out that the graphics card isn't supported, haha, that would suck.

if you are on dial up you will need the modem driver first,xp dosent give you conexant drivers, mine needed modem, audio drivers. you wont be able to get online if you dont go get at least the modem driver before you start. ed

Xp has alot and installs the basics but as your PC is a laptop, the drivers can be a bit different as tunered said, the modem ones are not always supported, which is why I suggested you goto Toshiba and get any and all XP drivers for your model laptop first.
