Toshiba P200 - won't start at all

Hi

Please advise. My Toshiba p200 just won't start. With the power cord in (power adaptor works as I've tried it on my other toshiba laptop - and the battery is ok) there are NO LIGHTS and pressing the on button makes no difference.
I've tried taking the battery out and pressing the on button for a minute or two, then reconnecting the power/battery and this makes no difference.........there is just nothing. The laptop worked perfectly last time I used it. Also took the case off and there were no obvious problems such as burns.

Any ideas gratefully received.........hoping to avoid an expensive trip to a specialist. Is this likely to be a dead motherboard?

How do you know the battery is okay?

Could be, but I would want to ensure the battery is good first. Broken power connectors are a common problem too. Many notebooks have a fusible link that may have blown, but this is normally something a technician needs to determine and fix.

Re the battery, my wife also has a Toshiba laptop so I swapped the battery to see if that would solve the problem but without success. I also used her adaptor to see if that would solve anything, which it didn't. So faced with a lifeless plastic box at the moment.

And these are identical batteries? If so, I would make sure it is fully charged on your wife's system, then try it again on yours. If no luck (with or without charger), then yeah, you have a brick.
