   I'm working on a laptop that is mentioned in the title that won't boot. The HDD starts spinning and the initial Toshiba Screen comes up but after that nothing. The HDD stops spinning although the HDD light stays on and the screen goes black. I press F12 to get to the boot menu...nothing. I press F2 to get to the BIOS...nothing. Could it be the HDD?

   Hard to say with any certainty, but you should be able to purchase a used hard drive for that machine at a local computer repair place. If you can replace it and install an OS, you will know. You should be able to get one for around $40.
