I have a Toshiba Satellite E45T-B4204 that I am working on. I have a baffling situation. The laptop originally had liquid spilled on the keyboard. The unit was powering up but the keyboard was not working. I disassembled the laptop and replaced the keyboard.

After reassembling it, using the power switch to turn on the device device, the power light, and fan powers up for 1 second, and then it powers off.

I thought maybe the mainboard was the issue, so I purchased a replacement, but the same problem is happening.

The battery appears to be charging when its plugged in, but the unit will not stay powered on long enough to for the boot-up sequence to happen.

The only thing left I can think of is the power switch is faulty, or the dc adapter.

I tested the DC adapter with a multi-meter and its showing 19 volts. I also confirmed current is reaching the board, to rule out a dc jack problem.

I ordered a replacement power switch, and dc adapter to see if that fixes it, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Even if liquid doesn't cause an immediate short, there is still a possibility the dampness may have caused something to corrode over time.

If there are any secondary boards that connect to the main board (or any other parts you haven't replaced) they may be the culprit. On electronics, corrosion isn't as easy to spot. In a worst possible case, a corroded part hooked up to an otherwise working board can cause a short and damage it.

Although others may disagree, the only thing I will do for a customer requesting a repair on a PC that suffered water damage is remove the drive and attempt data recovery (or not even this if the PC has been submerged under water). I have seen aftermath of everything from spilled coffee to Hurricane Harvey. PCs are like cars: if they've suffered flood damage they need to be declared a total loss.
