    Hi everyone,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D. For some reason, the screen is dimming about 2 minutes after startup. It is readable, but dim. It works fine in Safe Mode and it works on startup. I have already checked my power settings and I have tried to manually adjust the brightness with no luck. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    Greetings, Nichole2577.

Does the screen dim while the machine is on battery, or when it's plugged in?

From your symptoms and from what you've checked, I wouldn't think the display's failing, but you never know. Do you have a discrete monitor you could try for troubleshooting purposes?

And, it's possible that a reload of your graphics drivers might help, especially since the problem presents in Normal Mode but not in Safe Mode. We'd need to know your operating system version and Service Pack # and the exact model # of your machine to link you to a file, or you could go to Toshiba Support and plug in your specs.

    Hi Caliban,
Thank you for your reply. I do not have a monitor for troubleshooting right now. And it dims whether on battery or plugged it. I do have it set up to dim when unplugged. The dimming I am currently having is slightly dimmer than the normal dimming when unplugged.

I tried to find the driver you suggested myself, but there are too many choices and I am not sure which it is. My model is a Satellite L305D-S5934. I have Windows Vista 32-bit with service pack #2. Thank you so much!!

    Hi, Nichole.

This file appears to be the correct video driver for your model. You can try the driver reinstall, but I'd be willing to bet that you've got a backlight lamp problem - everything that I've found with your symptoms indicates a failing lamp if nothing is amiss in your power properties.

Actually Caliban, that seems to have worked! So far, so good anyway. Thanks a bunch!!
