TOSHIBA SD-R2512 problem

    i have a toshiba A55-S306 SATELLITE laptop. i have a toshiba SD-R2512 CD-R/CD/DVD-ROM DRIVE. i have XP home edition service pack 2.

    it reads only CD and CDR. it does not burn CDS and does not read DVDS.

    i updated the codecs. i have nero ultra edison 7. it does not read DVDs at all.

    do i need to buy new hardware? what do i do. i am very close to throw my alptop out the window :p

    yea, if upgrading the firmware on it doesnt work, i would look at getting a new drive. they are heaps easy to put it, they are usually only held in by one screw. laptop drives are notoriously prone to breaking....
