I posted a request a while ago to find a solution to repair my registry. (ToshibaNB100(12A))
    I'm STILL nowhere. :cry
    The error is: WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM.
I've tried compiling a batch (bartPEtoUSB) to boot from flash-disk but all I end up with is either a blue screen prompting me to run disk check or a dos screen prompting me to insert CD-ROM/r-repair.
    I'm at my witt's end... can any1 help? :(

Your config registry has become corrupt, you can restore the registry to the stock configuration with a backup file if you have a windows XP disk.

Follow this guide,I will help you if your get stuck.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

The corrupted file is your system configuration file, you may get away with just replacing the 'system file' with the backup instead of all 5,then restoring it to a previous state using system restore files once you can boot into the computer.

If you can access the broken hard drive through another computer I can show you how to switch/repair the files that way also.

Hmmmmmmmm, I've seen the article at MS "307545"
Not much help, I think... (don't quote me).
ToshibaNB100(12A) doesn't have a disc-drive & I have no way of hooking the internal drive up to my rig. I did look into BartPEtoUSB, grub4dos and a few other similar app's, maybe I'm doing something wrong, I format the flash-drive (tried 16&32bit) with MBR & created batch, all I get is the dos screen prompting me to insert CD-ROM/r to repair.
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

    Hello again.
The MS KB needs me to be on as admin, I'm currently trying to find an app. that will reset the PW because I'm an absent minded twonk. :-D

On another note... Still trying to repair my net-book.
I thought I had it, until I got a dos msg. saying:

File \$WIN_NT$.~BT\biosinfo.inf could not be loaded.
    The error code is 18
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

I used BartPEtoUSB to compile to flash-drive.
Can I acquire the fore-mentioned file on-line somewhere? If not, can it be easily written or extracted from another computer?

What version of windows do you have?

Are you talking about two different computers?Anyhoo can you post your version of windows.

I'm a little confused as to what you are doing now, here's what I understand.

1.You cannot access the hardrive because you don't have the password for it,so you need to crack that first.

2.You have to fix the corrupt registry file, the file 'should' be located on the harddrive, you have to use this file it contains the configuration information specific to your computer, all your settings from the first time windows was installed so you can't download a file.

Do I understand correctly?I'm just checking if I'm allowed to help you crack your password.

EDIT also what is this error 'WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM.' what message came with the location of the error?

    Hi-ya.

I can't rem. my admin PW on my main rig, that needs cracking/replacing.
The reg. repair is on the net-book. (the KB article you pointed me to needs admin right's). Maybe it's a mute point due to the fact the corrupt reg. is on the net-book, I haven't had the chance to look at "KB307545" to see what it is.

My rig uses XP Pro '02/SP3
The NB uses XP Home ('02 I think).

    Sorry for any confusion. :)

    WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM: File corrupt/missing.

You can recover a Toshiba NB100 by using the Toshiba recovery disk when you connect an external ODD (optical disk drive).
    * connect an USB CD/DVD drive to the USB port
    * insert the recovery disk
    * turn on the notebook and press F12
    * in menu select CDROM
    * wait until system has booted from recover disk and follow the instruction on the screen.

If you have not created the recovery disk then you need to purchase one

Note: recovery means restoring to factory condition. All files and programs installed by you will be gone and not recoverable.
