Total Annihilation crash on start up

like i always do i format HDD's and reinstall windows and my games and never get around to playing them. well i just got around to playing Total Annihilation i duble click on the TA icon and it loads for a sec and thin i get the Total Annihilation has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error is there any compatibilty problems with Total Annihilation and windows Xp pro SP2?

 

I have XP Home my advice to you is run it in win 95 and fiddle with the next three options if need be. It will work in Home edition, it does for me, but you must be patient. Also go on the net and search for Total Anhilation patches there is a patch that gives it XP compatibility.

 

i think i found the problem if i try and start without cd it crashes on start but if i put in the cd it plays fine.

 

Right click the TA icon, click Properties then Compatibility (tab) and run in Windows 95 mode (or whatever its meant to run in) Im guessing its an old game?

 

Yeah, positively ancient. From all the way back in 97.
