Hi,does anyone have accurate info on how much disc space is actually consumed by microsoft`s security updates in Windows Xp? I think people would be astounded if they really knew how much disc space it takes to run windows xp somewhat securely--if they choose to install them at all.I know many people who choose to ignore many of windows updates simply because they don`t want their hard drives filled with more megabytes from microsoft---figuring running good firewall, antivirus and antispyware programs will suffice-----maybe they are right.
If anyone knows the actual amount of megabytes or is it gigabytes of disc space windows xp updates consumes--please let us know--perhaps many don`t want to know, which is one big reason many use the firefox or some other alternative browser.
Thanks much for any information-----this is really the best site i know of by far for obtaining computer answers from intelligent people-------second to none.

try going to the control panel -- > add/remove programs, everything listed as a hotfix is a windows patch. i dont have any listed cause im on XP SP2, but if you are still without any service packs and you've installed other updates, you can see how much space it's consumed.

I just set up XP pro on PC, For Xp pro OS, Chipset/Mobo drivers and SP2 your looking at aprox 2.5gb.
I've set up dozen's of PC's with XP they seem to average between 4 to 5 gb with the most common programs and anti virus stuff installed.

I'd also say most people dont really care how much space windows & updates takes as long as thier computer works.

2 cents more, if your running windows you should always install all the critical updates, regardless of what antivirus/spyware/firewall stuff your running, and Guess What with SP2 there all bundled up in it anyway, with the exception of the Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (KB834707) I dont remember how big it was IMO it's pointless!

If your short on space buy a bigger HDD or another for storage, these day's ya can get one cheap.

Most of the PC's I repaired Windows isnt hogging all the space, it's the all other Garbage people install on em!
