    Well, over the holidays, I had some family over. The word "obsession" was thrown around a lot, when they saw how many computers I had in the house. And that's even BEFORE I showed them THE storage room. So I'm curious as to how I stack up here.
    So......How many WORKING computers do you all have in your house?
    And how many NON WORKING ones? Non working ones will include those that consist of the case, and mobo. All other parts may be stripped from them.

    Me:
    WORKING: 7 desktops, and 2 laptops.
    Non working: 19 desktops, 1 laptop.

    Youz guyzez turn ! LOL

    Oh boy. Things are looking bleek for me. Seems I AM obsessed. I'll start an "anyone know a good shrink" thread later. LMAO

    I guess I won't mention my storage room, that has 8 metal shelving units, with 5 shelves on each, all full of just computer parts.

    And yes, you're all correct. I have no wife or girlfriend. LMAO

    In our house, we have 5 desktops (3 win98, 1 xp, 1 486), 1 laptop (win 3.1.1)
    A full, big storage box of cables. We used to have more desktops, we donated them and gave them away. We still have lots of computer books like "word for windows 6" "windows 3.1"... grrrrr .. I thought we had too much... I can't believe you have more................

    You're lucky, when my family come over, the word F Off gets thrown around a lot. :D

    I only have two PC's, and they are both lucky to be working with my limited abilities.

    I do enjoy however, fixing 486's and P1's and 2's etc, and donating them to the Salvation Army.

    It has nothing to do with being a good samaritan (there's nothing good about me), it's just what I enjoy.

    I have three desktops. One has a computer on it, one has a printer on it, and the other has writing materials, and usually some dirty cups on it. Upstairs there is a table, and that has a computer on it. There are three laptops in my house, and at any given time one of them might have a computer on it.(If I can borrow it from work, where there are many desktops, three of them with computers on them)

    Oh. I wasn't counting stuff like software too. But that doesn't take up much room. Only 3 drawers in a filing cabinet. OMG
    Cool, I have Windows 3.1 too. Also have Borland C++ for DOS ??? Although I have NO IDEA what it is or does, if someone needs it, damnit I have it !!
    I really should weed out some stuff. I see no need to keep a DataGeneral Dasher 386 machine running Xenix. Whatever that is. LOL

    I have thousands of PC mag CD's and DVD's.

    One quick question for anyone in the States, do your PC mags come with CD's or DVD's on the cover?

    I bought a PC World from there, and it didn't have one, and I've been told the answer is no?

    Aussie and British ones do.

  26. G.T.

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

    I've seen some both ways. Maximum PC can be had either bare, or with a CD for a higher price. Retailer can choose to sell either or both. PC World usually is bare, sometimes comes with a freebie CD.

    ~~~
    One working desktop, one OLD non-working desktop (so old it's AT format, not ATX. I should throw that one away.) Plus a load of retired components. I usually try to give old components to friends that can use them, but always have a bunch.
    Do the desktops also have legs underneath them to support the desktops, or do they just rest directly on the floor? Also, are there drawers attached to the desktops, like, you know, underneath, so that you can put stuff in them? I was also wondering why you mentioned that you had a table, since that wasn't one of the questions.....And, one more, if you don't mind....Why do you lug a computer all the way from work, and why do you not set it on a table, rather than putting it on one of the three laptops in your house? I just thought it might be a bit awkward, and was going to suggest getting a notebook computer for this use, I'm sure you will find it much handier to have on your lap, rather than that computer from work, which I'm sure doesn't balance very well on your lap.
    :)
    But, to answer the question....
    I have no NOTEBOOK computers, but I have 2 working PCs, one in Kolya's room (our old 1.3 Thunderbird) and our new Athlon 64 in our room.
    However, in the building where I live, which is technically my house, there are approximately 200 working computers, consisting of PCs, Macs, ibooks, other assorted notebooks, X-boxs, Gamecubes, Ipods, PDAs, and who knows what else, but I don't really OWN any of these, but they ARE in my house.
    :)
    Ah, but the one I take off the desktop at work and bring to the laptop at home is a notebook. I'm allowed to, as long as I make a note in the book they have for such things on the desktop, next to the PC, at work.
    Many reasons. I have a lot that are "for parts". Nobody in my area works on old computers, and I make a killing doing so.
    Some I fix up and sell.
    I have a laptop for portable use. Mainly for at work conducting personal buisness on company time. LOL
    One desktop just for gaming.
    One desktop for regular daily use.
    And one spare desktop just in case.
    Funny.........you ask why more than one, but I've worked on tons of peoples computers that have broke down, and it's the only one they had. They get frantic.
    What WILL I do without a computer while you fix mine they ask.
  50. foogoo
    foogoo Major "foogoo" Geek
    I have 3 in "operation" -
    work pc
    my gaming PC
    Son's PC
    2 laptops
    and about 9 others in various stages of working / use
    one PDA
    And a 'few' parts ;)
    Why? because some are old and outdated = not worth much, but I use them for firewalls, arcades, answering machines, tinkering - I enjoy them. After a few upgrades I have enough 'old' parts for a new PC... I do fix them up and give them away too.
    So 15?
