Has anybody here had any dealings with a company called Total Secure Now?
Just got a phone call from Toronto, Ontario from this company asking about my PCs security programs.
Told them that the person they needed wasn't in.
A Google on the company had no listing for Ontario that I could find. Based in West Patterson, NJ.

A reverse WhitePages lookup on the phone number shows as unpublished or unlisted.
Sounds funny for a legit company.

    Hi Hrlow2

Its sounds a scam and your more likely to install a rogue app and that will cost you monies! as if your are duped into installing it (I know you wouldnt be, but others less aware of the internet and security apps would be) then it scans and you have to pay through the nose to remove the fake malware it finds.

Even on their page and I wont link to it as dont wish to give them free advertising is that the NEWS page to an article that they made the Forture 500 list is a dead link, sneeky suspicion that they have changed their name from plain old Total Security to Total Security Now to try and get under the radar of folk searching the net for info.

Has been a few like this in the UK over the past 6 months HERE or so, with calls saying they are from Microsoft and on a routine scan of your PC they have found malware and will clean it for you (yeah sa if Microsoft will do that or have the time).

    Hi

Sorry should have added, they will likely either want to remote connect to your PC but have you install an app they would email, then once they do this the scan will tell you you have malware and to remove theis nasty malware it will cost you, so please can we have your Credit card info!

So in the end if you or a person was to be sucked in they would or may have you install something, but wouldnt be 100% as dont know the full conversation, just seen mutterings in some security circles on the company name, but these days many are close and some are same to dupe folks into thinking its legit, aka Windows Antivirus etc

Oh I know that type of thing wouldnt fool you as I mentioned in my first post but I have seen some who have been duped by those types of scams.

So cheers for the heads up on this one as its seems fairly recient so may gather some momentum as the spammers on the forums are, while some have been reported already, I have deleted 30 that had not even posted yet, but their is a massive signup going on from some quarters of the world.

Maybe the shift is from Spam Emails as per HERE to trying to hit forums or maybe a shift to the cold calling that you experienced.

For time pass sake, you should have played along.
Come on hrlow2, we would have had a great story, You said - He said.
Just played the noob for a while- " Errm how do I check for my security programs installed". Kept him on the line and riled him up.:-D

Then after a while. Should have mentioned Chaslang's "How to protect" list.:-D

    Cheers..

I had some fun just letting him talk for almost 10 minutes about how they could "help" me.
Asking questions about the security measures we had, AV installed, and type of firewall we had.
Sounded disheartened when the person he "needed" to talk to wasn't in.
Just the tone of voice was worth listening to his spiel.
