Ok, this is a strange one, but a friend brought a computer in to work for me to help him do something on it.
It was all working ok, then he had a week off work, and I did not touch the computer while he was off.
When he came back to work, we went to carry on where we had left off, but the computer was dead.

I checked the power lead and that was ok, so I changed the power supply unit for a known good one, but the computer was still dead.

I have looked all over the motherboard in case there was a fuse that could of blown, but there was not.

Literally nothing is happening, no lights, no noises, no beeps. Nothing.

Any ideas where I should go from here?

    Thanks in advance.

    Is all the wiring OK?

If it's not the Power Supply, the motherboard would be next on my list.

Yeah I have checked the wiring it all seems ok, I was fearing it could be the motherboard, but thought something would show signs of life at least.

This is a first for me, it has meant loads of head scratching.

If it is the motherboard then i will just scrap it but salvage what is left.

I'm guessing there is not going to be anyway to check for certain if it is the motherboard or not without physically putting another one in.

Have you checked the power point?

Yep, even unplugged the lead from the pc and checked for correct voltage there.

Should of mentioned earlier that the monitor also plugs in to the tower rather than in to its own power point. The monitor is still showing signs of life when i try to turn the pc on, even though the pc is appearing dead.

Check the cpu. Don't know what would have happened to it though.

If power is getting through to the monitor at least we know there is power getting through. but if 2 X psu's won't fire, no psu fan (which is what I guaged from your post) then my money is on the actual switch on the back of the tower (if it has one) OR the switch/on/off button on the front of the tower.

You are right with your assumptions about no psu fan mulletgut. Also there is no switch on the back. So i will try to bypass the one on the front or something and see if that gives results.

I'll keep everyone informed if I get it working, but am still open to suggestions.

Sorry there seems to be no option to edit my previous post, so I have had to double post, i hope this is not frowned upon here.

I disconnected the switch in the front and bridged the terminals that it connected to briefly to see if that would make the pc start, but it never.
So I assume it is going to be the motherboard now.
