touch pad issues

Hi, I have a HP pavilion dv6000 laptop running on 32bit vista. My touch pad's left and right click do not work any more. Ive tried installing uninstalling driver and reinstalling it updating it and cleaning out under neath the buttons. Its a synaptics driver. If i have it set for animated tray icon it shows that the left and right click are pushed down. Showing green lights for both buttons. I can move the cursor around find that part of the touch pad works fine. Any ideas? I did a bunch of google searching with no help on my problem.
