I am having problems with my synaptics touchpad pointer using XP Tablet Edition on a Gateway E-155C. The pointer will suddenly snap back to the left hand side of the screen. This problem progresses to a point where I have no control over the pointer. I have gone through the malware section but the problem persists. I have now been referred to this software forum for HELP! I have tried uninstalling the synaptics tourchpad driver and reinstalling but that hasn't solved the issue. NEED HELP!

Could there be a mechanical problem with the pointer itself, and not a software issue? Perhaps the pointer contacts are dirty. With the device turned off, manipulate the pointer firmly several times on each axis. See if that clears up the issue.

Other then that I'm not sure . . . you seem to have covered the software angle. Hopefully it's as simple as a sticky contact!

Problem resolved! I found that the problem was that I had a metal clip attached to the screen and for some reason the pointer would jump to the left hand side of the screen exactly where the clip was. I finally figured it out after doing malware clean and posting here in software. At least I think my computer is really free from malacious software issues. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!
